Tesla Model 3 Update Gives Your Car A Dashboard DAW, ‘Trax’

Tesla Model 3 owners that have loaded the latest OS update are discovering a surprising new feature – a GarageBand-like DAW, called Trax.

The above video, via Tesla Canuck, demonstrates the ‘dashboard DAW’.

Here’s another look, via Scott Craven:

Pure awesomeness, worst idea ever or just stupidtacular? Share your thoughts in the comments!

    1. Tesla wouldnt be soooo stooopid to do this whilst the car was moving.
Most likely its available when the car is stationary :
waiting around … 12secs into the top video thats what the dude says :
So stuck in traffic jams, whilst battery charges, waiting in car park, car wash.

  1. Awaiting comments along the lines of “I would use this DAW if the car cost 700 bucks max”.

The big question is- can it play 8 notes over and over while you “jam” on a cutoff knob? It seems like that is crucial these days.

    1. Studies show distracted driving is as dangerous, possibly more dangerous, than drunk driving.

Many states have passed “hands free” driving laws making it illegal to operate devices, whether texting, calls, or watching videos and playing video games when driving.

Car companies though made sure there was an exception – using your hands to interact with the car’s touch screen isn’t a violation of these laws.

Obviously the cool thing to do is to move all those distracted driving tasks to the touch screen, where it is still legal to use when driving, and off the phone, where it is not.

Tesla drivers are often seen watching movies and playing video games while the car is in “autopilot” mode, which they consider safe, despite the occasional decapitated or burned alive driver. It’s sad that they can’t use their phones now in some states, but no worries Tesla has them covered with these new features.

Of course Tesla could address what I’m saying by making these gaming, DAW, and other such features only work when the car is parked and never when in autopilot. That won’t happen unless they are forced to do so by legislation (will never happen, they are the darling US company of Congress) or by lawsuits (unlikely, Tesla is armed to the teeth with vicious lawyers that will accuse any victims of being paed-o-files etc, as Musk does).

You can’t actually use any of those features while the car is in motion. Just an FYI.

  2. Makes it 40% more likely than texting that you’ll wind up as street pizza. Next: we’ll get that number to 75% with video loops of hot women pole dancing during GPS instructions. In the back seat, this would be okay. From the driver’s seat, stupidtacular.

  3. Here in Oslo the density of Tesla cars – and especially the cheaper Model 3 is extremely dense. However – I don’t think there’s many who know what to do with a DAW… They are more concerned with unexpected behaviour from the auto pilot.
