NES Poly Chiptune Synthesizer Brings Back Classic Video Game Sounds

The NES Poly Chiptune Synthesizer is a MIDI-controlled polyphonic synth, created by Chiptune Synth LLC, that emulates the sound of the Nintendo Entertainment System video game console, allowing musicians to create NES / Famicom style chipmusic by simply connecting a MIDI controller.

The NES Poly Chiptune Synthesizer is designed to work with a variety of MIDI controllers, including keyboards, sequencers, and most other MIDI devices that feature a standard MIDI DIN output. Musicians can even control the synth with a laptop or desktop computer via a MIDI interface cable.

Pricing and Availability

Production of the NES Poly Chiptune Synthesizer is being funded via a Kickstarter project, which is already fully funded.

    1. apparently it’s priced where people will still buy it. But it’s true that you could buy a used NES and a Chip Maestro cartridge for around half the price.

  1. I’ll just come out and say it:

NES sound sucks. People only like NES sounds because they are nostalgic. It’s just unfiltered pulse waves, folks! You can make these sounds and a whole lot more with pretty much any synth!

The only worthwhile chiptune sound is from the C64.

    1. You correctly realized that nostalgia plays a huge part in why people adore these sounds but then somehow made a logic jump and come to the comclusion that that’s not somehow a valid reason to enjoy / like it? Is there some ‘universal’ reason to like sounds that isn’t influenced by memories / context / society that I should know about?
