10CC I’m Not In Love Choir Sample Library

In 1974 10CC recorded their third album, The Original Soundtrack. The album featured a song I’m Not In Love, written by Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman, that was a production masterpiece, featuring amazing, ethereal choral parts.

Now Sampletekk has released INIL Choir, a new sample library based on the 10cc I’m Not In Love choir.

Grain Science + A Mic Turns Anything Into A New Synth Patch

Canis at Wooji Juice posted an interesting demo, embedded below, that highlights how you can use Grain Science to turn just about anything into a synth patch:

Recently, I posted a new Grain Science demo track to SoundCloud. It’s just a series of experiments, but quite a few people found it interesting because it demonstrates a side to Grain Science that maybe not everyone is aware of: the ability to bring to life the awesome synth instruments that are lurking in the everyday sounds all around you.

Moog Intros Bowel-Shaking BASE SoundPack For Animoog

YouTube Preview Image

Moog Music today introduced the BASE soundpack for Animoog – a collection of timbres and presets that radically extends the sonic capabilities of Animoog from the purely electronic realm of its Moog ancestry into a richly organic world of biological sound.

The BASE Pack is born from a quest Moog engineers embarked on, with help from researchers at The University of North Carolina at Asheville, to discover the most primordial sounds known to man. The result is the Biomimetically Augmented Synthesis Expansion Pack (BASE Pack) for the Animoog synthesizer.

In addition to the over 40 new Timbre files, Moog recruited top sound designers to craft 25 powerful new presets which demonstrate the range of BASE sounds that Animoog can now emit. Some of the Presets included are Extravasation, Eructations, Bad Beans, Bathtub Bubbles, and Oops Sorry Excuse Me. Some of the Timbres included are Sploot2, WetGas1, Dribbly, WetSquish2 and Excuse Me.

Above, Dream Theater’s Jordan Rudess demonstrates some of his trademark licks using BASE for Animoog and UNCA’s Dr. Wayne Kirby explains the origin of the new sound library.

Sound Design Based On The Human Voice

YouTube Preview Image

Sound designer and composer Mick Gordon has shared this smart promo video, Voices of Devs, that’s entirely based on voice samples that he made at the Game Developer Conference 2011 in San Francisco:

I wandered around with a little microphone at GDC San Francisco 2011 to record vocal sounds from anyone who was willing to make them. I wanted to make a song out of these noises. In fact, I wanted to make a complete song, using nothing but these vocal recordings.

This is that song.

People grunted, groaned, moaned, screeched, screamed, and sang into my little microphone and I used this source material to produce Voices of Devs.

Absolutely everything you hear in this track was made by manipulating these recordings using various sound design techniques. Every drum, lead, chord and effect was, at one point in time, a recording of somebody making noises with their mouth at GDC San Francisco 2011. No other samples, synths, instruments or recordings were used in this track. Whatsoever.

Free Justin Bieber Super Fun Ableton Live Pack

YouTube Preview Image

We’ve been hard at work for the last couple of weeks, putting in the long hours to bring you the news from the Winter NAMM Show.

But we’ve been so focused on NAMM news that we totally missed some new gear that flew in ‘under the radar’ – the Paper Jamz Justin Bieber Keyboard Guitar.

We don’t know how we missed a sick cardboard axe like this, especially since you can get it for $10 at Wal-Mart.

Fortunately, AfroDJMac has his finger on the pulse of the Justin Bieber action and he brought this Bieberific bad boy to our attention:

Hey Synthtopia, Thanks for all the great coverage over the last week, it’s been pretty exciting.

Surprisingly, however, you guys have never covered one of the years hottest electronic musical instrument, the Paper Jamz Justin Bieber Keyboard Guitar ;)

Well don’t worry I have the scoop on it and have made it into an Ableton Live Pack consisting of a synthesizer, drum rack, some nasty samples, and a Slice to Midi preset for the enjoyment of all! There’s a gritty lo-fi charm bringing this Justin Bieber toy into Ableton and making synths and such out of it. I hope you guys like it!

Actually, listening to the demo for the Justin Bieber Super Fun Ableton Live Pack, it sounds like AfroDJMac’s come up with something a bit twisted and wrong.

But, if twisted and wrong + Ableton Live + Justin Bieber is right up your alley, check out AfroDJMac’s site for the details and the download.
