T.C. Electronic has announced Access Virus Version 2 for PowerCore.

Updates include:

• The new stereo version of the Virus requires less bandwidth and proves especially useful for PowerCore users working with multiple instances of the plug-in.
• Program change is now fully supported.
• Version 2.0 addresses a number of instabilities in regards to timing, especially in regards to the arpeggiator, the LFO and any other component synced to clock.
• It also addresses issues found with certain host applications, such as cases of crackling, hanging notes and graphical issues.

The 2.0 upgrade is a free download for all Virus PowerCore users.

After an extensive public beta test phase OS3 is ready to roll. The new operating system for the entire Virus TI product line introduces new and existing effects such as additional distortion types, a tape delay and last but not least a ring shifter.

The new version is recommended for every user and can be downloaded free of charge as of today.

We also launched the next public beta cycle for OS version 3.0.2 which will focus on stability and performance. The new OS version is available for public testing today.

At the 2009 Winter NAMM Show, Access announced the immediate availability of the Virus TI2, an update to its popular Virus line that’s cold, sexy and 25% more powerful.

In addition to greater calculating power, the Virus TI2 is lighter and comes with OS3, which features new FX, including Tape Delay, Frequency Shifter and several new Distortion algorithms, along with a new feature called Character.

OS3 will be available immediately. The Virus TI2 will also be available shortly after NAMM.

Details:

Character allows you to adjust the overall tone of a preset reminiscent of several vintage and well-known synthesizers. In addition you can emphasis certain aspects of the patch to allow it to cut better through the mix, or fade it into the background with an extra-wide stereo field.

The new distortions were built from scratch and feature an extreme dynamic range along with sophisticated controls to tailor the sound to your specific needs. They can add everything from warm, tube-like overtones to complete sonic deconstruction more reminiscent of circuit-bending. The new algorithms also include a revamped bit and sampling-rate reduction, allowing you to change the quality and cutoff point with precise, continuously variable control.

The stereo Frequency Shifter and the new Ring Modulator are state of the art algorithms modelled with old ’70s stomp boxes in mind.

The Tape Delay goes way beyond the possibilities of the real Tape Delays in the ’60s and ’70s. It smoothly syncs to tempo, lets you decide if a Doppler effect takes place when changing the tempo, and even switching the delay time between presets is all smooth, making it perfect for performers. Last but not least, a modification to the main “VCA” algorithm enables OS3 users to design gating FX known from electro and minimal influenced music.

Virus Control has received a completely redesigned user-interface. The plug-in now features a side chain input allowing you to mangle audio from a sequencer track with the FX and sound engine of the hardware Virus (for selected hosts only). The best news, however, is that OS3 is compatible with all legacy Virus TIs and the Virus TI Snow, thus enabling Access’ vast user base to update their existing instruments with all the new software features totally free of charge.

Transistorbass captured their gig at the Elektrostat festival in Oslo, Norway on the 7th of October 2008.

Though this is low-budget and the sound quality is mediocre, Transistorbass does a good job of capturing their gig. 

“With regards to the sound: don’t worry about the severely distorted bass – it is on the recording side, it’s not your speakers,” they warn. 

Actually, I kind of like the severely distorted bass!

The new version, which is compatible with the entire Virus TI range including the Virus TI Snow, features:

• Atomizer (a realtime glitch- and looper effect)
• a third USB buss to transfer more discreet audio channels in between the synth and the computer
• support for multiple devices.

It also adds Virus Control Center, a MacOS/Windows application which can backup and restore the memory content of the entire synth and overwrite the ROM banks with new sounds.

Access has announced the Virus TI Snow, a desktop Virus with computer connectivity.

The Virus TI Snow features 3 oscillators and one sub-oscillator per voice. The main oscillators can be classic analog-style oscillators (saw, square, sine waves, etc) hypersaw, wavetable, graintable, or formant oscillators.

Two independent filters (lowpass, highpass, bandpass and bandstop) with an optional saturation module offer classic Moog-style sounds and a variety of other 1-4 pole filter effects.

A two dimensional modulation matrix, with six slots offer a full range of realtime modulation effects. Three LFOs are available with both hardwired destinations and a user-definable slot. Two multi-state ADSTR LFOs are also available.
