Celemony has announced two new products:

Melodyne assistant, which offers the Melodyne technology for the editing of vocals and monophonic instruments in a more affordable format, and

Version 2 of the bundle edition Melodyne essential, which now runs directly as a plug-in in the Pro Tools environment and brings with it numerous improvements over the previous incarnation.

Melodyne essential 2 is scheduled to appear at the beginning of November. It will be available only as part of Digidesign’s Ignition Pack software bundle and cannot be acquired separately.

Celemony Software Melodyne assistant will bow in November and will cost $249 / €199. More information on Celemony Software Melodyne.

Details below.

Melodyne assistant is the most affordable entry into the world of Melodyne and ideal for the correction and optimization of monophonic and rhythmic audio material. The user can use Melodyne assistant to correct intonation or timing problems by hand, transposing notes, moving them forwards or backwards in time, deleting them, adjusting their amplitude and their formants, as well as copying them to new locations.

Melodyne assistant works as a plug-in directly in compatible hosts, allowing you to use Melodyne’s possibilities in a particularly convenient manner, and the user can conduct all editing in the context of the other tracks of his project. For the swift editing of a sample between times, Melodyne assistant can also be used as a stand-alone application.

Also new is Version 2 of Melodyne essential, which offers the basic Melodyne functions for the editing of monophonic or rhythmic audio material. It is intuitive and simple to operate as well as offering the same sound quality as the new Melodyne editions editor and assistant.

Version 2 now operates directly in Pro Tools as an RTAS plug-in. That makes it still easier to enjoy the rewarding editing possibilities Celemony affords. And not only that: in Melodyne essential 2 you will also find the tried-and-tested Melodyne macros for pitch and time correction.

Celemony Software is presenting at the 2009 NAMM Show the Melodyne editor, the first product with Direct Note Access (DNA).

DNA technology lets you, for the first time, edit individual chord tones in audio recordings.

Melodyne editor offers for single audio tracks all the possibilities that have made Melodyne legendary, and, with DNA, opens up in addition to these unique new possibilities for the correction and refashioning of audio material. Melodyne editor can run as a plug-in or stand-alone and will be available from spring 2009 for 349 US$/€.

This opens up reams of creative possibilities for audio editing. At the most obvious level, imagine automatically changing a audio mix from major to minor. At a more advanced level, DNA makes it possible to reharmonized fully arranged recorded material.

Details:

Melodyne editor is designed for the editing of individual instrumental recordings such as vocals, guitar, saxophone or piano, but good results can also be obtained with more complex material such as string quartets. If two instruments sound the same note at the same time, Melodyne editor offers one note for editing. The user can alter the pitch, position and duration of the note detected, make it louder or quieter, copy or cut it and paste it in some other position, and so on. Adjustments can also be made to the formant register, vibrato and drift of the notes as well as any pitch, volume or formant transitions. Special copying functions also allow the transfer of selected attributes from one note to another.

The new software base offers among other things optimized multi-threading that fully exploits the advantages of modern multicore processors. In addition, it allows many improvements in plug-in operation including freely selectable window size, the monitoring of pitch editing, scrubbing, and ‘Edit Play’ (playback not tied to the host).

“Our first product with DNA was intended to be an update to Melodyne plugin 2. Since, however, we have ended up developing a new product around DNA, with new technology and fully new application possibilities, and one that furthermore can also be used as a stand-alone application, we decided to give it a new name. Melodyne editor sums it up nicely: a Melodyne editing environment for individual tracks,” says Carsten Gehle, Technical Director of Celemony Software GmbH.

When it appears in spring 2009, Melodyne editor will replace Melodyne plugin and be available for 349 US$/€ from the Celemony web shop as well as from music dealers. In addition, Melodyne editor will also be a part of the Melodyne studio bundle. The update options already announced for existing users of Melodyne plugin will still be valid: the switch to Melodyne editor will cost 129 US$/€, and anyone who registered Melodyne plugin after the 12th March 2008 will even receive Melodyne editor free of charge.

Clavia has released the Nord Wave Manager, an application that allows Nord Wave users to create Sample Instruments from any standard audio file and download these to the Nord Wave synthesizer through its USB interface.

Highlights:

Creates mono or stereo samples from an audio file (.wav format)

Easy to map samples across a keyboard range

Graphical interface for setting start- and alternate start points in a sample

Graphical interface for creating loop markers, and loop crossfade options

Real time monitoring of any adjustments

Librarian utility for Sample Instruments and Program

The Nord Wave Manager has some powerful functions to assist users to create multi-sampled waveforms, called Sample Instruments. These Sample Instruments can then be used as waveforms on the oscillator 2 on the Nord Wave. The Manager can extract individual samples from a mono or a stereo audio file and map them across a keyboard range; these samples can then be adjusted in e.g. pitch and/or amplitude. The process of setting start and loop markers is very easy to accomplish with the Nord Wave Manager. It has provisions for two loop types, Long Loops and Short/Single Cycle loops. In order to create seamless loops from a variety of sounds, an adjustable crossfade option is available. Setting a start point and an alternate start point in a sample is a one-click function.

Every change that can be applied to a sample or a group of samples in the Nord Wave Manager can be monitored in real time via the computer audio card. Any change in e.g. the positioning of the loop markers or setting for the crossfades is instantly heard during playback. The Nord Wave Manager can also be used offline; Sample Instruments can be edited and/or created using only a computer. The results can then be downloaded to the Nord Wave synthesizer at a later stage.

The Nord Wave Manager also contains a librarian function that can manage the memory content of the Nord Wave — both the Sample Instrument memory and the Program memory.

The Nord Wave Manager is available as a free download at www.clavia.se in the Nord Wave Download area and is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Mac OSX.

Bias has announced that SoundSoap Pro has been updated to version 1.2 and features 100% native compatibility with Apple’s Power PC and Intel-based Macs, while also offering support for Windows XP and Vista.

SoundSoap Pro uses a unique, integrated interface that allows the user to access any tool from within a single plug-in window. Tool navigation tabs are labeled (left to right) “Hum & Rumble,” “Click & Crackle,” “Broadband,” and “Noise Gate” – reflecting the suggested order in which the operations should be performed, to obtain the best possible results. The tabs provide parameter feedback, allowing the user to monitor the primary tool settings globally, regardless of which tool is currently selected.

Multi-band NR: Speed, Usability & Performance with a Minimized Chance of Artifacts

Many broadband noise reduction solutions (including BIAS’ entry-level SoundSoap) work by analyzing, or “learning,” a noise profile, which can then be suppressed using a pair of threshold and reduction controls that operate across the entire frequency band. While this can achieve fine results, more challenging noise problems, as well as more discerning ears, demand additional control.

Some products go to the opposite extreme to address these needs, with individual controls for hundreds of frequency bands. But as many audio engineers are aware, this multi-band method can prove to be time-consuming, cumbersome, and confusing – leading in turn to an increased risk of “chirping”, “muffling”, “flanging”, and other annoying artifacts.

SoundSoap Pro’s approach to multi-band noise reduction focuses on speed, usability, and performance. SoundSoap Pro groups 512 bands into 12 discrete threshold and reduction sliders – delivering dramatically enhanced efficiency, ease-of-use, and superb sonic results. The sliders may be easily grouped with a lock button, and 12 vibrant level meters assist in threshold adjustments. When used with SoundSoap Pro’s additional attack, release, and tilt controls, even the toughest broadband noise can be easily and dramatically reduced, while dramatically minimizing the chance of any inadvertent artifacts.

Enhanced Visual & Audio Monitoring Options

SoundSoap Pro’s tool area features a unique, global, real-time spectrogram – providing constant visual monitoring of spectral noise that may be in need of treatment. With its intuitive color codes, the spectrogram allows users to discern problem areas and make relevant tool adjustments, all while listening to – and watching – the results. Furthermore, users can easily hear the noise they are reducing by selecting “Noise Only.” Unlike Bypass – which can be used globally or for each tool, and which bypasses the processing – the Noise Only button allows the user to hear, on a global level, only what is being removed.

These two features allow SoundSoap Pro users to ensure that undesired noise is effectively suppressed – and that desired signals are unaffected by the restoration process.

A Universal Restoration Solution, Supporting All Leading Plug-In Hosts

SoundSoap Pro is designed for every major Audio Units, RTAS and VST plug-in host, including BIAS Peak Pro, Cubase SX/SL, Digital Performer, Live, Logic Audio, Nuendo, Premiere, Pro Tools, Sound Forge, Sonar, Wavelab, and many others.

Pricing & Availability

BIAS SoundSoap Pro 1.2 is available now through the worldwide network of authorized BIAS dealers and distributors at a suggested retail price of $599 US. SoundSoap Pro is also available as part of the Peak Pro XT edition at $1199 SRP. BIAS’ original entry-level SoundSoap 2 remains available at a suggested retail price of $129 US. Registered users of SoundSoap Pro may a free update to version 1.2 from the BIAS web site.

Musikmesse: Celemony Software has announced the release of Version 1.8 of the bundled edition of Melodyne: Melodyne essential. This offers new playback algorithms as well as a number of bugfixes and improvements of detail. The update will be available for download free of charge by all registered users of Melodyne essential from the end of April onwards.

Melodyne essential forms part of the Digidesign Pro Tools Ignition bundle as well as E-mu’s Production Tools software bundle and offers many users a simple introduction to Melodyne’s pitch correction, vocal production and melody editing functions.

The most important improvement offered by essential 1.8 is the new “Percussive2″ algorithm for the editing of percussive material. In terms of sound quality, when applied to drum loops and similar material, the results delivered by this algorithm are considerably better than those of its predecessor.

Among the other new features of Melodyne essential 1.8 are the combined scroll/zoom bars introduced by Melodyne plugin, an alternative grey colour scheme for the user interface, various improvements in the display and handling of percussive material, and a more user-friendly implementation of the copy protection.

“The playback algorithms along with the efficient audio detection form the basis for the unique editing possibilities of Melodyne software, which is used and much prized all over the world in professional productions,” says Peter Neubäcker, the founder of the firm and developer of the Melodyne algorithms. “We are improving and further developing both the detection and the playback algorithms on a permanent basis, and we didn’t want to deprive the users of our free bundled version of Melodyne, Melodyne essential, of the benefit of these improvements.”

The update to Melodyne essential 1.8 is free of charge to all registered users of essential and will be available for download from the end of April onwards from www.celemony.com.

Melodyne essential for Windows XP and Mac OS X forms part of Digidesign’s Ignition bundle as well as E-mu’s Production Tools bundle.

Import your EXS24 instruments, loop your samples, use Harmonic Resynthesis to reshape sounds and use a variety of pitch detection mapping tools for getting to the result very quickly, without leaving the Keymap environment.

When you are ready to use your instruments in your music, you can export them as industry-standard Logic/Logic Express EXS24 instrument files and samples. Each sample file created by Keymap always contains full mapping details so that it can be imported in any sampler application.

Redmatica has created a series of videos that demonstrate how Keymap works - an example is avalable below.

Main features:

	Load/Save EXS24 format
Hybrid virtual memory audio engine supports directly WAVE, AIFF, MP3 and AAC
	Multichannel sample support (2 channels)
	Autolooping

Celemony Software has announced immediate availability of the audio editing software Melodyne uno for Windows XP and Mac OS X. The brand new small version of the unique audio software Melodyne works in a similar fashion to a sample editor — except that it offers the characteristic Melodyne functions, making it the ideal tool for pitch correction, vocal production and the editing of melodies.

Melodyne uno offers the tried-and-tested Melodyne functions for audio editing affording a new type of access to audio data and one with far greater creative possibilities. Melodyne uno is very intuitive in its operation, without complex recognition procedures or arrange levels. Like a sample editor, it permits the direct and uncomplicated editing of the pitch, tempo, phrasing, formants and timing of mono audio files.

What’s more, radical variation of these parameters is possible and in award-winning sound quality. At all times, Melodyne uno reacts in a very musical way. When it corrects the intonation of a vocal performance, for example, all the phrasing — including any vibrato — is retained. It is also capable of recognizing the tonality and mode implicit in a melody as well as transposing in a musical way.

The program is easy to learn and use. There are macros for the two most often used editing functions, Correct Pitch and Quantize Time, which make it possible correct a melody with a single key press. Melodyne uno can handle all commonly encountered audio formats as well as integrating smoothly into all conventional MIDI/Audio sequencers.

“Melodyne uno is a simple and uncomplicated tool for mono audio editing,” says Technical Director Carsten Gehle. “Just drag-and-drop an audio file into the program and you can edit the intonation and timing of the melodic line with a click of the mouse and even refashion it completely. A large number of musicians and producers have been waiting a long time for a melodic tool that simple and intuitive to use. Here it is.”

Melodyne uno for Windows and Mac OS X costs 169 Euro ($US199) and is available from dealers as well as from http://www.celemony.com. Purchasers will be offered a special price if they later wish to upgrade to either of the larger versions of Melodyne, the Studio Edition and Cre8.

Sonic Studio has announced Manual DeClick 2.0, a Sonic Studio DDP option.

Manual DeClick 2.0 provides the highest level of quality and selectivity required by corporate restoration departments and discriminating independents worldwide. Jayson Tomlin, Vice President of Sales, states that Manual DeClick “…wasn’t just the first, it’s still the finest tool available for surgical restoration of impaired material. The fidelity of the tool, when compared with other entries in this space, continues to define ’best in class.‘” “Unlike many of the commodity products out there,” he continues, “Manual DeClick operates on the data in the frequency domain while providing a familiar, time–based user interface for fast, flawless repair.”

Leveraging the unique power of Mac OS X, SSE and Sonic Clarity technologies, Manual DeClick forms the foundation of Sonic Studio’s definitive NoNOISE restoration suite, which also includes DeCrackle, a distortion reduction tool, and Broadband DeNoise, which delivers high fidelity noise suppression. As part of the plan to update their entire catalog, Sonic Studio will release this product as the first in a series of revamped components for their benchmark digital audio restoration suite.

“Our customers, the major record labels and Hollywood studios, rely on our restoration tools every day, preferring them to the wide range of imitations out in the marketplace,” said Jon Reichbach, President of Sonic Studio. “When you purchase an album reissue or classic movie on DVD, you’re most likely listening to Manual DeClick at work.”

Manual DeClick is available as an option for version 2.0 of SonicStudio•DDP and will also be available for upcoming software packages. The Manual DeClick 2.0 option is priced at US$495 and is currently available through Sonic Studio and their global reseller network. For more information, contact Sonic Studio sales at 805-987-5808 or visit www.sonicstudio.com on the Web.

Sonic Studio has announced that their latest product, SonicStudio•DDP for Macintosh OS X, is being made available as a time–limited free download.

The newly released SonicStudio•DDP is a Mac OS 10–native utility specifically designed to read, modify and rewrite PQ metadata embedded in the industry standard Disc Description Protocol (DDP). DDP was developed to ensure data integrity of optical discs during the production process. SonicStudio•DDP allows facilities that rely on DDP process flow to manipulate existing DDPi or DDP image file sets without having to reload or change the source audio material.

In keeping with Sonic Studio’s management vision of creating focused tools to streamline production mechanisms, the company is offering a 30 day, no-cost download of SonicStudio•DDP for replicators and mastering facilities everywhere to experience the application for themselves in a simple convenient manner. “If you use DDPi, then you really need SonicStudio•DDP,” said Sonic Studio president Jon Reichbach. “The bang for the buck is tremendous and, we want to prove it with our trial offer.” “This initiative demonstrates our efforts to focus on critical workflow issues. Ensuring accurate PQ entry no longer requires a full workstation,” adds Jayson Tomlin, director of business development.

A fully functional version of SonicStudio•DDP is available for free download at http://www.sonicstudio.com, along with more information on the application and the full suite of Sonic Studio products for PCM and DSD production.
