Articles about audio samples:
Image Line Software has released its latest sample collection, the Sounds of India.
The sound library contains over 835 samples packed in 1,5 Gb and includes 36 instruments and 2 vocals. The collection covers the foundations of the classic Indian sound – Tabla, Sitar, Shenai, Harmonium and Bamboo Flute, and South Indian instruments such as Veena, Ganjira, Maddalam, and rare Indian folk instruments (Edakka, Udukku, Darbuka, etc.)
“The gem of the Sounds of India is the Sitar. Its sound came out more wonderful than expected” according to the manager of the project, Indian Music Producer and Audio Engineer Vipin Venugopalan.
Every sound was captured without alteration in pitch so sample mapping gives a unique sample for every key. Pitches were recorded in Chromatic Order and sounds from the finger board and the frets were not altered in order to preserve the instruments natural essence.
The Sounds of India can be ordered from FL Studio Web shop for $89.

This video features a series of very demos of sounds from the Optigan Archives Vol. 1 Sample DVD-R, compared with their related sounds from the Optigan/Orchestron/Talentmaker sample CD.
This is a set of loops and keyboard samples culled from the original Optigan/Orchestron studio master reels. While the Optigan itself always sounded lo-fi due to the limitations of its optical-soundtrack technology, the original master tapes retain their hi-fi sound quality (albeit in mono).
The Optigan master reels are a vast archive of early 1970s era musical building blocks, covering a wide range of popular styles from the period. Ultimately, only a small portion of this material ever made it onto production Optigan discs.
For this initial collection of samples, I’m focusing on that small portion and related out-takes. Future volumes in this series will comprise entirely unfamiliar material- out-takes which never saw the light of day on any Optigan disc.
