Instead, it’s the latest example of browser based music software. In this case, Soundation is a virtual studio that runs your web browser.

Click here to try it out now.

Here’s what PowerFX has to say about Soundation:

Soundation Studio is the web based sequencer that enables you to make music, ringtones and audio clips directly from the internet without downloading any software. This beta version includes over 400 royalty free audio loops, 9 different effects, track automation, basic loop editing, loop audition, master channel control and mix down to desktop.

Soundation won’t be stealing Logic or Sonar’s thunder anytime soon.

But Soundation may be good enough to let people discover the benefits of working with a browser-based virtual studio.

The P22 Music Text Composition Generator is a free online application that turns text into music.

Paste in text, select a tempo and select an instrument and the Music Text Composition Generator will turn your text into music that you can play online or download as a MIDI file.

Description:

A short text may be best at a slow pace (IE 10 BPM) whereas a longer text may prove more engaging at 1200 BP. Texts where phrases are repeated often (like P22 Music Text Composition Generator) provide recurring musical phrasing that is truly astounding. Length of visual score is limited and longer text may not render onscreen or print to full capacity.

In some browsers (Safari 2 or greater), the ability to play real time multi-tracking can allow for complex compositions. Simply follow steps 1-4 repeatedly altering instrument and BPM rate. For browsers that do not allow simultaneous midi files to be played, multiple browser windows can be opened and “performed” at the same time.

The generated musical text does not claim copyright nor imply any rights from the text used. Creative Commons copyright is granted for all musical compositions generated by the P22 Music Text Composition Generator.

The SoundCloud people are moving quickly and developing some interesting stuff.

The Cloud Player is a browser-based music player. It lets you:

Find and play all tracks from SoundCloud

Save playlists to your Google Account

Make smart playlists based on genre, BPM, etc

Share your ready-made playlists with your friends

Collaborate in making the best playlists ever

It’s a 1.0 app and a bit limited – but it’s an open source and could very well be the start of something much bigger.

I’d love to be able to provide a link on Synthtopia that would open up Cloud Player, with Playlists that I’ve selected of music by Synthtopia readers. Let the SoundCloud team know hat you think about it at their blog.

Check it out here.

Here’s a little something via SoundCloud: AudioTool tracks by Joa Ebert.
AudioTool is Flash-based music application that’s like Reason for your Web browser. It turns your Web browser into a virtual music studio.
Are browser-based music tools ready for prime time?
