Applied Acoustics Systems Chromaphone Review

chromaphone review

Ronnie Rekkerd shared his thoughts today on Applied Acoustics Systems’ Chromaphone physical modeling synthesizer:

With its physical modeling, Chromaphone produces wonderfully dynamic, expressive sounds. Experimenting pays off, as just the turn of a knob or two can yield completely different, unique sounds.

Needless to say, Chromaphone is a fantastic synthesizer for cinematic, soundtrack type works. It will likely suit many electronic music producers as well, especially in the area of ambient, minimal, and idm genres.

Chromaphone lets you combine ‘acoustic resonators’ to create drums, percussion, string, and synth-like instruments. The resonators’ material, tuning, and coupling parameters allow the creation of a wide range of instruments and sonic colors.

Applied Acoustics Systems Expands Chromaphone Sound Bank Series

Applied Acoustics Systems, developer of “software based synthesis tools,” has expanded its Sound Bank Series with new titles for its Chromaphone percussion synthesizer.

Chromaphone combines acoustic resonators to create drums, percussion, mallet, string, and synth-like instruments. Drum skins, bars, marimbas, plates, strings, and tubes form pairs that are “sparked to life” by a configurable mallet and a flexible noise source. In describing how the software works, AAS explain that they have developed “a novel coupling technology” that precisely models how vibrating objects interact and influence each other capturing key acoustic behaviours of musical instruments.

Applied Acoustics Systems Intros Chromaphone Percussion Synthesizer

Applied Acoustics Systems has introduced Chromaphone, described as a ‘creative percussion synthesizer’ for Mac OS X and Windows.

Chromaphone combines ‘acoustic resonators’ to create drums, percussion, mallet, string, and synth-like instruments. Drum skins, bars, marimbas, plates, strings and tubes form pairs that are triggered by a configurable mallet and a flexible noise source.

At the heart of Chromaphone lies technology that models how vibrating objects interact and influence each other, capturing key acoustic behaviours of musical instruments. Continue reading
