Articles about classic synths:

DigitalSoundFactory.com has announced re-mastered original Emulator sampler libraries, in addition to the Proteus and other ’synth’ libraries already available for direct download on the site. The E-MU Emulator products represent twenty years of cutting edge sound content that has been used on numerous music recordings and film scores including Marcato Strings, the Shakuhachi from Sledgehammer, the X-files flute, and many others.

Digital Sound Factory has available a massive library of over 10,000 instruments and growing. Prices range from $14.95 to $69.95.

Nucleus SoundLab has introduced OB Resurrection, a new sample library created focused on evolving the classic Oberheim sound into the new millenium.

OB Resurrection relies on a large waveform base drawn from various Xpander and Matrix synths. According to Nucleus, every classic sound is represented: Brass, Strings, Bells, raw Saw/Square/FM waveforms, Clavs, EPs, and more. In addition, a significant portion of the waves were created by running the synths through various analog and digital FX to create new analog sounds.

Features:

  • 50mb (32-bit format) of carefully sampled/looped Oberheim waveforms.
  • 85 unique soundsets.
  • 453 Wusikstation presets authored by the leading Wusikstation
designers, including Tim Conrardy, Pro-Sounds, Ugo, tasmodia, elv and rsmus7.
  • 128 EVE2 presets by Pro-Sounds.
  • The Refill version includes 64 Combinators, as well as 85
    NN-XT patches.

The sample library is available for Wusikstation v3+, Reason 3, EVE2, and Soundfont/SFZ, and retails for 39.95 EUR.

      something to think about

Part of being a successful artist is to make amazing art, seemingly effortlessly. But this is the rub: to make amazing work you have to make a lot of stuff that kinda sucks.

That may seem obvious, but when you reach a place where you’re work is selling at a consistent pace and supporting yourself and your, ahem, habits, it’s very easy to feel like you’ve got it all dialed out.

Making work that sucks suddenly doesn’t seem like an option, it feels like a waste of time.
