Vienna Symphonic Library MIR

Vienna Symphonic Library has introduced Vienna MIR, a Multi-Impulse Response convolution reverb, described as a groundbreaking mixing and reverberation host.
Description:
In traditional production, the mixing console is a barrier between the music creator and the music environment. A skilled engineer can combine tracks and add reverb to create sonic results that are somewhere between real and surreal. But that’s not the most musical way to work.
Rather than mixing from the outside in, a Vienna MIR project starts with each individual instrument or ensemble, taking into account how sound emanates from its body, in what direction, and in relation to its position in the hall. Use the MIR Control Icon to move and rotate instruments freely on the concert stage, and change their volume and stereo width – not with two-dimensional faders and pan pots, but within a fluid three-dimensional environment. Vienna MIR combines directional and reflectional information from every instrument, assembling all of the acoustic interactions into an accurate and satisfying recreation of musicians playing their instruments in place and in space. Short of recording an orchestra on site, what could be more musical?

Halls of Fame Impulse Responses
Best Service have released Halls of Fame, a collection of impulse responses from the world‘s most famous reverb units.
Description:
This collection of IRs from the world‘s most famous reverb units takes your convolution reverb plugin to the next level. Produced on state-of-the-art equipment for maximum resolution, ultra-low noise levels and pristine, transparent sound quality.
Using tailor-made test and production methods, the people at the renowned Soniclab studio obtained stunning audio quality that actually matches that of the original equipment. 32 Bit True stereo technology was used to accurately reflect the signal positions, leaving the soundstage of the mix intact. Deconvolution side effects were EQ’d out carefully, and no automatic batch processing was used.
Since all processing and editing work was done in 32 bit floating point format, the 32 bit files provide the ultimate in sound quality. The 24 bit versions of all the presets are almost as impressive, and are ideal if your plugin cannot handle 32 bit files.
“The most critical parameter in convolution reverb is always the quality of the IRs you use.“ Wolfgang Lenden – audio engineer & music producer / Soniclab studio Read more…

Studiodevices has released Reflections LE, an inexpensive convolution reverb VST-plug-in including 500 MB of studio impulse-responses of world-class hardware and selected real rooms and ambiences in 24-bit quality.
Reflections LE is a simple convolution reverberator that features low latency down to 16 samples and even a zero-latency mode. The 32 Bit high optimized algorithm uses SSE instructions, resulting in outstanding performance.
Reflections LE includes a 24 Bit 500 MB impulse library, recreating programs of hardware reverberators and many well selected real rooms and ambiences. The hundreds of provided impulse-responses are recorded in 24-bit and up to 384 kHz and then are optimized for the calculations in Reflections LE. The presets are ready to use in studio productions and are available in different room sizes and reverb-lengths, so that it is really easy to find the fitting reverb for the current production immediately. Audio Ease has released impulse responses of the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic: Walt Disney Concert hall.
The modern hall opened on October 23, 2003, and while the architecture evoked mixed opinions, the acoustics of the concert hall were widely praised in contrast to its predecessor, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. This IR release is as complete as always with many microphone set-ups in stereo and surround, interactive surround VR photography and Google Earth Placemarks.
On the LA trip another valuable recording was made, to be released soon: the famous 20th Century Fox Film Scoring Stage. Audo Ease is currently processing recordings made in the halls and churches of Stockholm and Oslo and the spectacular Trakai Castle in Vilnius Lithuania.
Altiverb is the first convolution reverb as a real-time plug-in. A 19-minute demo movie (MP4) is also available.
