This video looks at glitch sound design using Ableton Live.

via oubliettezombie:

In this video I outline a simple, iterative process for creating lots of tiny glitch sounds using just about any audio source material.

The devices used are the Redux, Reverb, Frequency Shifter, Simple Delay, Gate, and Grain Delay. Additionally, I cover creative resampling of your glitches for later slicing and rearranging via the Random MIDI device.

Enjoy!

Loomer Shift is a real-time diatonic granular pitch shifting and delay effect for Mac & Windows.

Shift has three independent true stereo delay lines with discrete time, feedback, pan, and volume controls. Each delay line can be set in one of three pitch shifting configurations (Chromatic, Recursive, or Diatonic) and transposed by as much as an octave up or down using both coarse semitone and finely grained cent controls.

Shift is available for Mac OS X v 10.4 and above, Windows XP and above, and Linux, in Audio Unit, VST plugin, RTAS for Pro Tools 7 and above, and Standalone application formats. Shift retails for £35.00.

In Diatonic mode the accurate and responsive pitch tracker follows any monophonic audio source and tunes the pitch of the delay line harmonies to remain in key and in scale.

Shift’s echoes can either be synced to the host tempo (expressing delay times as musical subdivisions of a beat, with each echo exactly in time with the host) or in free-time mode (allowing fine tuning of the delay times, up to 2 seconds.)

Each delay line can be modulated using the straightforward Pitch and Time modulation controls, capable of generating a wide range of sounds from subtle detuning to extreme audio mangling.

True independent stereo processing means that left and right channel separation is preserved. Shift is also capable or running in mono, or even mono to stereo.

With optimized audio algorithms that won’t overload your processor, rock-solid stability, and easy integration with any MIDI hardware controller, Shift is ideal for live work. With a simple and intuitive interface, flexible Bank and Program management, and total parameter automation, Shift fits right into your studio environment.

An evaluation is available for free download, with the following limitations:

* User created Program and Bank configurations can be saved, but not loaded.
* Output will be periodically interrupted, approximately every minute, by a short moment of silence.
* Audio output will stop after 30 minutes of continuous use. The only way to continue using Shift is to restart the application.

Purchasing a licence will remove these evaluation limitations.

This video demonstrates how to emulate a scratch-style effect in Ableton Live 8 using the new delay Modes in Live’s Ping Pong Delay.

This is not meant to replace vinyl nor will it produce a totally authentic sounding scratch sound, but it is a Ableton Live only solution and is a nice add-on to your effects arsenal.

“Twin Delay” Rebote 2.5 Delay Echo Digital Analog Pedal

via djthomaswhite:

Here is my build of the popular Rebote 2.5 Delay project as offered by www.tonepad.com.

This is a $14 PCB where you source and build the rest of the parts. It is actually a great kit for someone looking to get into DIY projects that have to be soldered by hand.

The enclosure is from www.pedalpartsplus.com and I got the source wrong in the video. Sorry PPP!

It is kind of hard to tell, but the powder coating these guys do is AMAZING. The delay is based on the PT2399 chip and is technically a digital delay, although on board filtering of the echo tails makes it sound quite analog. I built two echos in the same box, with echo #1 feeding into echo #2. The connection is via a switching jack so you can use it as two separate echos just by plugging in to the 2nd echo input.

Other wise it is a dual true-bypass unit with only a need for 1 input and 1 output. I’d like to have three in one unit, but two works wonders in the end. Build one!

It is perfect for synths or guitar and can handle a decent input volume. Very cool and very fun to play with.

If you’ve built this DIY project, leave a comment with your thoughts!

“Developing RSM pedals has been a multi-year program for us that has resulted in a platform on which we can develop in many directions”, states Duwe. “Our 24-bit hardware, firmware and software system will allow us to model many acoustic spaces, instruments and electronic modifications; at very little cost to the customer. One could easily be misled by the compact pedal form factor, but under the hood of our RSM processors you will find a lot of substantial FX for DJ’s, keyboardists and guitar amp effects loops alike.”

Behringer RSM pedals include chorus, phase shifting, flanging, reverb, delay, echo, octave, dynamic formant eq, acoustic modeling, rotary, harmonizing and synthesis modeling.

All pedals feature:

Real Sound Modeling with advanced DSP algorithms

24-bit A/D/A conversion

Rugged impact-resistant injection molded cases

Sealed rotary controls

Dual outputs for stereo or split-signal applications

Ultra-bright On/Battery LED

Battery or DC powered

US List $74.95

Features:

Sample-accurate delaying

Millisecond-accurate delaying

Up to 3 seconds overall delay

Multi-channel processing

Internal channel routing

Channel grouping

Mid/side processing

Preset manager

Undo/redo history
