Casper Electronics has announced that it’s now taking pre-orders for the Drone Lab V2, a 4 voice analog drone synth, rhythm generator and FX processor.

Description:

The Drone Lab is capable of generating rich, textured soundscapes, hypnotic drones and complex rhythmic sequences. It features a series of filter and distortions circuits as well as an audio input jack. This allows it to be used as an effects processor for external audio signals.

The Drone Lab retails for $50 for the PCB only, $200 for a PCB and parts kit, and $350 fully assembled.

The Drone Lab is a 4 voice analog drone synth, rhythm generator and FX processor.
The Lab has an external input with pre amp which accepts audio signals from any audio source including microphone, guitar, keyboard and other Drone Labs. External signals can be mixed with the existing drone and run through the lab’s filter and distortion circuits.
The Lab also features a clock interface which allows the internal rhythm clock to be linked with a variety of external clocks.

The eighth episode of Electro-Harmonix Effectology series looks at recreating Joe Meek’s Telstar, and the sound of a vintage Clavioline, using just a guitar and effects pedals.  No keyboards,samplers or midi pickups were used.

Telstar was one of the fist pop hits to feature a synthesizer.

The Clavioline was a very early synthesizer using vacuum tubes.

In this official Ableton Live video, Huston Singletary demonstrates vocoding with the Ableton Vocoder.

Vocoders use a multiband filter to apply the amplitude of various frequencies of a source sound, such as your voice, to another sound. Vocoders are probably best known from the voice of the Cylons on Battlestar Galactica and other sci fi robots.

The Roland RE-101 Space Echo is an classic vintage audio analog delay effects unit (1974).

A tape echo device records incoming audio to a loop of magnetic tape, then replays the audio over a series of several playback heads before it is erased again by new incoming audio. Roland’s Space Echos are coveted to this day because of their slightly unpredictable but attractive sound.

Tom Lang from TC-Helicon takes a quick look at the features of TC-Helicon’s new floor-based vocal processor VoiceLive 2 at NAMM 2009.

Moogo Filter is a free Moog-style filter effect for Windows.

It features an envelope generator, which can be triggered by MIDI notes so the plugin can be inserted behind any synth plugin, to play it thru a Moogish filter. The plugin also features an overdrive.

The Harvestman has introduced the Stilton Adapter, a 4-channel floor effects adapter and instrument amp for modular synths.

The Stilton Adaptor provides level matching for convenient attachment of instrument-level effects devices into a modular signal path. Each channel features up to 30x gain (noninverting), wet/dry crossfade, and a compact two-way TRS connector.

This module requires 1/4″ TRS insert cables for bidirectional transmission using effects devices. Instruments and their effects chains can simply be connected with a TS cable.

Four channels of:

• 10vpp modular input
• 10vpp modular output
• TRS jack for sending/receiving signal to effects device
• Gain adjustment
• Wet/dry crossfade
• The output on channel 4 is multed for easy feedback loops (just patch it back into an input)

Blue Cat Audio has announced Blue Cat’s Freeware Plugins Pack – all the company’s freeware VST and directX audio plug-ins gathered together in a bundle. Choose the VST or DirectX plug-ins download, and get them all.

The bundle contains a wide range of modulation effects as well as analysis tools.

Available formats include Windows VST and Direct X. A Mac VST version is now in beta, and an AU version is promised.
