I’d like to inform you about a very nice Electronic Music Festival that is taking place soon. It is called ‘Electronic Circus’ and it is organized in Bielefeld in Germany. It will take place on the 12th of September. There will be several concerts there and I will be present there as well with a stall. On this stall you can buy my current CD’s directly from me and I will also bring a special preview version of my upcoming ‘OceanoGraphy’ album. It will be almost finished by then so you can get a real sneak preview.

I have visited this event last year and I must say it is very professionally organized and the concerts where great. The concert hall is in the middle of the town so there is plenty to eat just outside. You can find more information on this event on this URL: http://www.electronic-circus.net/. I hope to see you there! It would be nice to meet in person of course.

Concert organizers Paxahau announced today that Movement 2009, the Detroit electronic music festival, brought 83,332 people to Hart Plaza during the three-day Memorial Day Weekend.

“Movement 2009 was an overwhelming success on so many levels,” said festival producer Jason Huvaere. “People loved the lineup of performances we were able to put together this year. Our sponsors and vendors really stepped up this year despite the tough economy. The recycling program surpassed last year’s totals for collected items. And we had great weather the entire weekend, which definitely contributed to the record breaking turnout.”

Carl Craig Becomes Movement 2010 Creative Director

The announcement of Techno Music legend Carl Craig being named Creative Director for Movement 2010 dominated much of the conversation on blogs and among groups of festival-goers.

“We have received nothing but positive feedback from the announcement about Carl,” said Huvaere. “His involvement will strengthen the future of the Movement festival in Detroit.”

Craig will be involved in various creative aspects of Movement and serve as an ambassador for the Movement festival as he travels the world.

Detroit Electronic Music Fans Recycle 4 Tons Of Trash

Electronic Music fans in attendance at Movement 2009 proved to be an environmentally-friendly group. Four tons or 8,000 pounds of recyclable materials were collected over the course of the three-day festival. This year’s total surpassed 2008 totals by 5,000 pounds.

Paxahau partnered again with Recycle Detroit, a non-profit organization founded by Detroiter Sarah Kubik. The non-profit had a team of 100 volunteers, utilized 40 recycling stations and successfully convinced nearly 2,500 people to commit to be more environmentally conscious.

“We were very pleased to have Sarah and her Recycle Detroit volunteers be apart of Movement again this year,” said Huvaere. “They have single-handedly taken the festival’s recycling program to the next level. Recycle Detroit is a great organization.”

“Movement is already a great festival and a successful brand,” says Craig, “it is an honor to be involved with Movement in this new capacity.”

Craig will be involved in various creative aspects of Movement including artist bookings and the festival’s brand image. He will also serve as an ambassador for the Movement festival as he travels the globe performing for throngs of electronic music enthusiasts.

“Detroit is such a wonderful music town,” Craig continued. “With Movement we have such a great opportunity to remind people from around the world and those that are right here in our own backyard that electronic music in Detroit is very powerful and that our annual festival is the best stage for showcasing the most talented artists of this musical genre.”

The annual Memorial Day Weekend festival has gone through several reincarnations since its beginning in 2000. Paxahau earned the right in 2006 to produce the festival. Paxahau is credited with bringing financial stability to the festival, but some feel they’ve whitewashed the Detroit electronic music festival in the process.

Detroit electronic music festival organizers Paxahau and 323East have announced a limited edition Movement 2009 poster, created by rock concert poster artist Mark Arminski.

Each psychedelic print depicts eight crazy-haired heads wearing green-lens eyeglasses surrounding an Old English D. The four color image has been silk screened on an 18 x 19 piece of cotton rag. Each print has been signed and numbered by Arminiski. Prints can be purchased at 323east.com for $40 plus shipping and handling.

About Mark Arminski

Considered a leader in the new school of rock ‘n’ roll posters, Mark Arminski has painted the landscape of Detroit and beyond with his signature pieces of concert art. His first commissioned poster work was in the form of silk screens for Iggy Pop and the Smashing Pumpkins. Arminski is notable for bridging the gap between the psychedelic art of the 1960s and the grunge aesthetic of the early 1990s, and he has emerged as a genuine equal among his own mentors. While much of his work was originally found in and around Michigan, he has designed concert posters for events in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, and he is regularly commissioned to design CD cover art. Arminski continues to have great influence among poster artists and his rich eye-popping designs have expanded beyond print media to body art and murals.

AD Music has announced the relaunch of electronic music festivals in Derby, with the AD 2009 Electronic Music Festival:

It’s 20 years since AD Music was founded and so an electronic music festival seemed a suitable event to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The midlands, and Derby in particular, is considered by many people to be the UK hub of electronic music and it is where our early concerts were held in 1993 and our first festival was held in 1996, so there is a nice symmetry. The excellent “Awakenings Evening” held every two months is doing a great job as the only regular electronic music event in the area, with the Hampshire Jam ensuring interest is kept bubbling in the South. In Europe there is the continued efforts of Groove’s e-live and e-day, while Germany is seeing renewed electronic music activity with the excellent electronic circus event in Beilefeld. So it’s our hope that this event will help rejuvenate interest in an annual all day electronic music festival and if the Derby event is a financial success, then it is AD Music’s intention to organize another next year.

So, if electronic music is your thing, which it probably is if you’re reading this, then support us in bringing back a Derby electronic music festival. Being a record label, we will always seek to have at least one of our acts on the bill. But as can be seen from the strong 2009 line up, it is not exclusively an AD Music artist festival, and it won’t be in the future either.

Here are the details:

Esthetic Evolution is a community based, participant driven music and art festival scheduled for June 20-22 in Idaho.

The event features live electronic music performances and art installations covering an entire weekend, and encourages attendees to contribute to the collective experience by any means of their imagination. The festival’s main premise is to provide a backdrop upon which participants can project their inner artist through a spirit of acceptance, collaboration, gifting, and love.

This year’s theme is “The Four Elements”, representing the fourth anniversary of the Event’s origination in 2005. Attendees are recommended– but by no means limited– to use this theme to guide their personal contribution to the Festival. Art installations and theme camps are strongly encouraged to enhance one’s own experience and the community as a whole.

You can get details on the event at the site.

Paxahau, producers of Movement 08 – Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival, hasannounced that ticket sales have tripled and volunteer interest and staff has more than doubled compared to 2007.

To date, Paxahau has 235 volunteers to work this year’s festival, which is up from last year’s 115. More than 40 of the volunteers are from out of state, and Paxahau expects to max out volunteers at 250 shortly, and will then rollover volunteers beyond 250 to staff the 2009 festival.

Additionally, festival ticket sales are triple of what they were at this time last year.

With an improved line-up, better organization and three times the early ticket sales – could the Detroit Electronic Music Festival be three times as big as it has been in the past?

“We truly believe that this year’s increased interest, on all levels, is a direct result of our work to continually upgrade the festival experience, from the artist line-up to the drastically enhanced sound systems as well as weatherproofed staging,” stated Jason Huvaere, festival director.

Last year, volunteers surveyed more than 700 festival attendees gathering information including: age, male/female, zip code, general mood, and reaction to artist line-up. The survey provided feedback that attendees wanted to see more commercially recognized artists.

As a result, this year’s festival includes successful electronic artists including: Moby, Dubfire, and Benny Benassi. The survey also revealed many of those surveyed did not even know what artists were scheduled to perform the day they were surveyed.

Huvaere added, “It shows fans are here for the experience that only the festival can provide.”

German Composer and Guitarist Manuel Göttsching (Ash Ra Temple, Klaus Schulze) will be part of the line-up of a free genre-spanning multimedia event organized by New York’s Lincoln Center, 800 Years of Minimalism – The Spiritual Transcendent.

On Friday, August 15, 2008, Damrosch Park Bandshell will be turned into a place of intense listening thanks to a mediaeval piece by Perotin, a special commission from Rhys Chatham and the American live premiere of Göttsching’s E2-E4

Göttsching’s show will be accompanied by a display of psychedelic visual effects courtesy of Joshua Light Show. Led by multimedia artist Joshua White, this audiovisual presentation will mark the first collaboration between Göttsching and White.

Rhys Chatham will unleash an army of instrumentalists in his outdoor version of A Crimson Grail. Originally written for 400 Guitarists and with Paris’ Sacre-Coeur in mind, the fresh edit will still feature a massive 200 guitarists and be revised to suit the dynamics of the Park’s outdoor acoustic.

Visitors should already prepare themselves for a heavy psychological impact. As Chatham remembers from the world premiere of the work: “It was often quite an emotional experience for people, I had full grown men come up to me afterwards with tears in their eyes.”
