Eric Archer, an electronics designer and musician who builds unique electronic sound generators, has posted a collection of samples made using one of his latest projects, the Mini Space Rocker drum machines.

Download the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band’s The Sun Is Down! Sample Pack containing the a capella tracks of Yoko’s vocal, vocal effects, and loops of bass, drums, efx and Tenori On.

Create your own remix of The Sun Is Down!, using as many or few of the samples from the pack and any original audio you wish to add.

When you have finished your mix, make an MP3 copy that’s as high quality as possible, but still under 10MB in size. Email the MP3 of your mix, along with its name and your name, address, email and phone number to remix@YOPOB.com before 12 December 2009.

The Top Ten mixes will be decided by Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band.

The winners will receive special signed Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band prizes and will be featured on Ono’s site over the Xmas and New Year period.

Goldbaby Productions has released a fun new sample pack that features arguably Moog’s worst synth, the Realistic Concermate (Radio Shack) Moog MG-1.

There are a lot of reasons the MG-1 was so cheesy, starting with the fact that it’s got the Radio Shack stamp all over it, moving on to the flawed construction to the dumbed-down control panel.

Despite the fact that it was a pretty cheesy little synth, it was a Moog with a real Moog filter, and if the sound wasn’t f’d up enough, Goldbaby ran it through a bunch of Audio Damage effects.

“I’ve been wanting to get back into sampling instruments, so I snuck my cousin’s djembe, brought it over, and cooked up this little beast in HALion format.

I recorded and compiled it yesterday and today, and played it about 15 minutes once I tweaked it right. I’m loving the sound I managed to get out of it.”

Here’s what he has to say about the library:

Fragments of the Total Harmonic Distortion sample library have popped up in various places, like the recent OLPC Sample Library Set. The complete library weighs in at nearly 3GB uncompressed. It is comprised of loops at various tempos created and processed with my modular synthesizer. Other pieces of hardware made guest appearances like the DSI Evolver, Roland R8 and Waldorf Microwave IIxt, but the bulk of it is the modular.

This stuff isn’t doing anyone any good sitting on my hard drive. I’d like to make it available to the public. I intended to release this via a creative commons license for some time, but the problem is distribution. It seemed rather excessive to dump on archive.org. Torrenting is ideal, but who is going to seed it? Recently, the final piece of the puzzle slipped into place: legaltorrents.com – a community created to distribute Creative Commons licensed media. Total Harmonic Distortion is released using a Creative Commons Attribution license – meaning the samples are free to use in your work, but you should give Stretta a credit if you use them.
