Here’s a sneak preview of the state of Audiobus – the upcoming audio routing tool for iOS.
In the demo, developer Sebastian Dittmann uses Audiobus to route audio from FunkBox and Sunrizer, through NLog Synth Pro and into Loopy HD, where it is recorded and looped.
Synthetic Bits has updated Funkbox, its iOS drum machine, giving it a third helping of funk.

This is a sneak preview of NodeBeat 2.0, which is ‘coming next week’ according to the developer.
NodeBeat is a generative music application with an internal sound engine. The video, though, demonstrates NodeBeat sending MIDI to NLogSynth Pro and Funkbox.

Synthetic Bits shared this video today, which demonstrates using iOS devices in a fairly elaborate multi-platform MIDI performance.
The video demonstrates the CoreMIDI capabilities of two iOS music apps, FunkBox and Little MIDI Machine, when connected to an iRig MIDI interface.
Other instruments used are a Korg Monotribe, Little Phatty, Tattoo drum plugin, Arctic Keys synth app, NLog synth plugin, and Ableton Live.
The performance is a real-world demonstration of the current state of iOS as a music platform, and reflects the work developers have done as part of the Open Music App Collaboration initiative.
While I’d disagree with the generalization that music apps that don’t support MIDI are ‘just toys’, the focus that iOS developers have placed on improving MIDI communication between apps has opened up a lot of options for musicians.

FunkBox v2.1 was approved blazingly fast today by Apple! If you are using FunkBox with CoreMIDI, or running it on an iPhone 3G with iOS4, or do a lot of drum box custom sample editing, you will definitely want to update as soon as possible.
If you have an iOS device that can do multi-tasking, you may also want to pick up the BassLine and MoDrum apps to play with the new multi-tasking audio features that allow you to run FunkBox simultaneously with other music apps.
