This is pretty cool – but somebody tell me again why we want to use $200 phones to do something you could do a lot better with a cheap ass MIDI controller?

ITM Midilab is an interesting tool – but I’m still waiting for some iPhone music software that wows me.

GForce has announced the release of a Universal Binary version of impOSCar.

The quirky soft synth is modelled on the popular British OSCar synth that was used by the likes of Ultravox, Jean-Michel Jarre, Orbital, Underworld and Stevie Wonder.

The UB update is now available and is free to users who purchased and registered their instrument after the 1st October 2006. For these users the instrument has automatically been allocated to their accounts at the GForce website.

If you purchased your impOSCar before 1st October 2006, you will need to update to the Universal ImpOSCar via the shop for £13.99 (plus VAT), €19.99 (plus VAT) or $26.00.

GForce has announced that M-Tron, the first of the company’s Universal Binary instruments, the M-Tron, is ready for download.

This virtual keyboard is modelled on the famous tape-based instrument used on classic tracks like the Beatles’ Strawberry Fields Forever and used by such keyboard luminaries as Rick Wakeman and Tony Banks. More recently bands such as Oasis, Radiohead and Kasabian have used the sound to great effect.

The update is free to users who purchased and registered their instrument after the 1st October 2006. For these users the instrument has automatically been allocated to their accounts at the GForce website.

The GForce Future Retro Pack combines all of GMEDIA’s emulations of vintage keyboards in one affordable package. These software instruments – Minimonsta:Melohman, The Oddity, impOSCar and M-Tron – bring back the sounds that defined an era–the Minimoog, ARP Odyssey, Oxford OSCAR and Mellotron, respectively.

These emulations have the advantage of modern features like memory, additional modulation and new performance modes the original designers never dreamed of. M-Tron

It comes with over 2.5GB of real Mellotron samples including strings, choir, flutes, brass, and more. Minimonsta:Melohman

The Minimonsta:Melohman is an emulation of the classic Minimoog that was at the forefront of the analog synth revolution and popularized by artists like Jan Hammer, Rick Wakeman, Keith Emerson, Gary Numan and Kraftwerk. Enhancements include polyphony, programmability, morphing, additional LFO and ADSR, and delay. Minimum system requirements for PC are Intel Pentium IV 1GHz; 64MB RAM; Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, XP; VST 2.0 or RTAS compatible host application for plug-in operation. Minimum system requirements for Macintosh are 1.25 GHz PowerMac G4; 128MB RAM; Mac OS X; VST 2.0, RTAS, or Audio Unit compatible host application for plug-in operation.

impOSCar

The impOSCar is a reproduction of the classic OSCar synthesizer used by artists including Stevie Wonder, Billie Currie, BT, Keith Emerson and Geoff Downes. This legendary vintage synth has been reproduced to the last detail–along with some new innovations. Use it in stand-alone or host mode. Minimum system requirements for PC are Intel Pentium III 500MHz; 64MB RAM; Windows 98, 98SE, Me, 2000, and XP; VST 2.0 or RTAS compatible host application for plug-in operation. The Oddity

The Oddity is an emulation of the classic ARP Odyssey popularized by artists as diverse as Herbie Hancock, Styx, Ultravox and Portishead. Modern improvements include programmability, preset morphing, host-syncable LFO and automation. Use it in stand-alone mode (Mac/PC) or as a plug-in for most popular host applications.
