The fun starts about 1:24 into the video as he talks about how he got started in music.

Marshall gives us an insight into the Chicago House movement and discusses his views on the current Dance Music scene as well as offering some choice tips on BFD and GURU.

Here’s something a little different for the Sunday Synth Jam series – a live performance of Derrick May’s classic techno/house track Strings of Life.

During the 5days off festival in Amsterdam, the Kindred Spirits Ensemble transformed a couple of techno and house classics into orchestral pieces. This clip contains the rework of the classic Rhythm is Rhythm – Strings of Life.

I have never done anything like this before.

All done on laptops. Richard Shea and I spent long hours editing and assembling. Final Cut Pro was a hard mountain to climb and in the end we mostly used Sony Vegas.

This first video is made to the Dr Meaker remix of ‘Optical Illusions’. He mixed it at Olympic Studios in South London. Sam Matthews was the mix engineer. I really like the sound they got there.

VstCafe demonstrates how to make an awesome progressive house lead:

This tutorial shows how to create (with Synapse Toxic II 2.5 vst plugin – btw. it’s a killer synth for such low price) a simple, progressive house lead similar to those well known kaskade, dmau leads.

As you can see, I didn’t use internal delay / reverb unit. I used external – Ableton effects such as reverb, ping pong delay, EQ and compressor (sidechaining) – really nothing special.

Hithouse – Jack To The Sound Of The Underground (1988)

This video clip is for a classic oldskool acid house track, Jack to the Sound of the Underground, from 1988.

The producer of this song, Peter Slaghuis (that’s why “hithouse”), was a very well-known DJ/producer in the era 1985-1991. In the early ’90’s he had his own record company “Hithouse Records” on which came out early Dutch hardcore releases. Himself was involved in such groups like “Holy Noise” and “Epilepsia”.

He worked together with persons like Paul Elstak and Rob Fabrie, who both became popular (happy) hardcore producers in the ’90’s.

Sadly enough, Peter Slaghuis would have never seen their success and the success of the genre hardcore because he passed away in a car accident in sept. 1991, just before “his” genre became more & more popular.
