Amidio announced that Touch DJ (App Store link), described as the first full-featured DJ MP3 application on the iPhone platform, has been approved and is now available.

Touch DJ offers realtime independent manipulation of 2 MP3 files, including scratching, looping, positioning, equalization, effects and and pitching.

Touch DJ gets around the limitation of one set of stereo outputs by focusing on “visual mixing” – the graphic display of the track waveforms next to each other. The low-bass (kick) parts are detected and rendered in different color compared to the rest sonic frequencies, making beatmatching as easy as adjusting the tracks position and pitch so that the kick parts become visually matched.

As an alternative for users who prefer to prelisten to tracks, Touch DJ also offers a second “Split” mode of mixing which requires the usage of a special l/r splitting adapter.

Other features include LP filter FX for each track, vinyl Spin and Break effects, onboard sampler with 3 sample slots (accepts .WAV files) and the ability to record samples via the microphone.

Touch DJ uses its own music library, independent of the iTunes music library. The app is shipped with 25 dance tracks provided by DanceMusicHub.com, and you can load up more using a utility available at the Amidio site.

iPhone Music Software: The Strange Agency has announced the launch of Slice (App Store link), a $.99 beat-juggling app.

Naughty Panther describes Plinkton as an application that lets you “create a rhythmic groove over a bed of smooth ambiance.”

Plinkton is less Kenny G, though, and more ambient Pong.

The app lets you select from three background tracks and 4 “plinkton sounds”. The “plinkton” moves around the screen, triggering sounds as it bounces off the edges of the screen.

Plinkton can also act as an OSC sender, letting you use it to trigger other apps.

Plinkton sells for $.99.

This is a preview of Pocket Organ C3B3, programmed by Shinya Kasatani, the creator of Pocket Guitar. Pocket Organ C3B3 simulates the draw bar controls and Lislie speaker system of a Hammond B3/C3 organ.

While this may be interesting from a technical standpoint – it’s hard to see how a tiny touchscreen Hammond organ is going to be musically useful. Wouldn’t it make more sense to put the same effort into creating original instruments, designed to make the most expressive use of the iPhone platform’s capabilities?

No release date or pricing has been announced for C3B3 yet.

OT: The Halloween Scream Machine (App Store link) is a free iPhone app for Halloween.

It plays back creepy sounds and soundtracks, and it also lets you record and play back custom samples.

Combine these scary sound effects with the Halloween dark atmospheric music mix and get read to scare the neighborhood……

Natasha Adorlee Johnson (Natasha and the Rejects) performs Counting Stars, while demonstrating how the TouchOSC iPhone application can be used to control video and sound.

TouchOSC was used as wireless OSC to MIDI controller in conjunction with Ableton Live and Resolume VJ Software. Johnson altered and mixed the visuals and sound live using the TouchOSC application on the iPhone.

All aspects of the performance demonstration, including effected sound and video processing, were done live. The top right hand shot clarifies Natasha’s actions on the iPhone to control the performance.

iPhone music software: This is a demo of SoundFields (App Store link), a new iPhone music app that’s designed to make it easy for people that don’t have a good ear for music to play tunes.
