Way Out Ware’s Jim Heintz demos iSample 2 (App Store link), and makes some pretty freaky sounds along the way.

Here’s what’s new in iSample 2:

sample trimming with pinch to zoom, two finger scrolling and scrubbing

sample length quantization

loop positioning/viewing screen

mixer

delay effect

a reverb effect,

step sequence pattern editor with 12 separate pattern buffers

a song mode that allows you to build songs out of patterns

WIFI sharing

tempo control with tap to set tempo

iSample 2 retails for $9.99.

This is a straight take without video edits of an iSample 2.0 demo session by Jim Heintz. It was done using the built in sample bank called Chillbeat 86 that ships with iSample 2.0. This demo shows only a small fraction of the features new to iSample 2.0.

iSample 2.0 is available at the Apple App Store by clicking the following link: http://budurl.com/isamplevid

Amidio announced that Touch DJ (App Store link), described as the first full-featured DJ MP3 application on the iPhone platform, has been approved and is now available.

Touch DJ offers realtime independent manipulation of 2 MP3 files, including scratching, looping, positioning, equalization, effects and and pitching.

Touch DJ gets around the limitation of one set of stereo outputs by focusing on “visual mixing” – the graphic display of the track waveforms next to each other. The low-bass (kick) parts are detected and rendered in different color compared to the rest sonic frequencies, making beatmatching as easy as adjusting the tracks position and pitch so that the kick parts become visually matched.

As an alternative for users who prefer to prelisten to tracks, Touch DJ also offers a second “Split” mode of mixing which requires the usage of a special l/r splitting adapter.

Other features include LP filter FX for each track, vinyl Spin and Break effects, onboard sampler with 3 sample slots (accepts .WAV files) and the ability to record samples via the microphone.

Touch DJ uses its own music library, independent of the iTunes music library. The app is shipped with 25 dance tracks provided by DanceMusicHub.com, and you can load up more using a utility available at the Amidio site.

Touch DJ retails for $19.99.

If you’ve used Touch DJ, leave a comment with your thoughts!

Note: DJ apps have been slow to be approved by Apple. There’s a petition you can sign to ask Apple to speed up the process.

Synthwerks is offering a sneak preview of their modular synthesizer, which is still under development, at their Facebook page.

They’ve announced an interesting array of modules, including a “thumbstick” joystick controller; force sensing resistor modules; and this iPhone/iPod touch Player Module, designed to integrate an iPhone into your modular synthesizer.

Synthwerks is a small company in Seattle, Washington which designs and makes synthesizer modules in the Eurorack form factor.

According to Synthwerks:

Synthwerks will be focusing initially on making alternate controllers and modules for processing/modifying CVs. We will make some other modules that will be aimed at filling the gaps we find in the available offerings by other companies or to compliment modules they make. Some will just be for fun.

In other words you probably won’t see a standard VCO or LPF with a Synthwerks logo on it. Those who are on FaceBook, you will find a Synthwerks page there, and you are encouraged to comment on the modules and make suggestions for ones you may want. If interest is high enough, our modules may be offered in kit form. Stay tuned…

This is a preview of Pocket Organ C3B3, programmed by Shinya Kasatani, the creator of Pocket Guitar. Pocket Organ C3B3 simulates the draw bar controls and Lislie speaker system of a Hammond B3/C3 organ.

While this may be interesting from a technical standpoint – it’s hard to see how a tiny touchscreen Hammond organ is going to be musically useful. Wouldn’t it make more sense to put the same effort into creating original instruments, designed to make the most expressive use of the iPhone platform’s capabilities?

No release date or pricing has been announced for C3B3 yet.

Check this video out - Wave Machine Labs has introduced iGOG (App Store link) – a $4.99 massive multisampled drum machine for the iPhone that offers velocity sensitive response!

Features:

8 velocity sensitive drum pads using patent pending VelAUcity technology

Comes with 6 drum kits. More available through the built-in store

Load your own kits using standard wav, aif or Drumagog .gog files

Hi-hat and Ride pads change articulation as you slide across the pads

Built-in sequencer with standard midi file support

Sequencer features quantize, metronome, time signature, count-in, tempo and loop

Backing track mode lets you play and record sequences in perfect sync to an mp3 file

Mic trigger mode lets you play drums by tapping on objects, such as a table

Built-in file transfer mode allows you to copy files between iGOG and your computer

Mixdown feature lets you create an audio mix of your sequence

Description:

Borrowing technology from Drumagog iGOG features up to 384 multisampled drum hits per pad.

iGOG introduces the impossible: touch sensitive pads that respond to how hard you hit them! Using WaveMachine Labs own patent pending VelAUcity technology, iGOG accurately responds to your touch. The harder you strike the pads, the louder the drum hit. Finally, a drum machine that plays like a real kit.

Note: VelAUcity features are not available on iPod Touch.

Drumagog Technology iGOG contains a powerful drum sample engine which captures every nuance of a drum hit. Because a snare drum sounds different the harder it’s played, iGOG’s samples are packed with Dynamic Multisamples to ensure a faithful reproduction. iGOG’s Random Multisamples guarantee that no sample is ever played twice in a row, making rolls and flams sound realistic. Hi-hats take advantage of iGOG’s Positional Multisamples, which provide a smooth transition between closed and open styles. Simply slide your finger across the rectangular pad!

It’s designed for mixtapes, albums, and demos; and all the content comes with a free license. Just give the Kangz a shout on the production credits. The Beat Kangz say that you’ll soon be able to download all beats as hi resolution multitracked files from BeatKangz.com, too.

iPhone music software: This is a demo of SoundFields (App Store link), a new iPhone music app that’s designed to make it easy for people that don’t have a good ear for music to play tunes.

Not sure if that’s a good thing or not, though.

If you’ve used SoundFields, leave a comment with your thoughts!
