This is a preview of Justice’s A Cross The Universe.

The DVD of this release contains a documentary of Justice’s March 2008 North American tour. This documentary is directed by Romain Gavras, So-Me and the band themselves. The documentary is meant to cover less of the band’s live shows, and more of their personal experience touring.

The live portion of this release was recorded at a concert in San Francisco, California at the Concourse Exhibition Center, on March 27, 2008.

This video demonstrates how to make the distorted bass that French producers Justice use in many of their songs.

When Justice came out in 2007 i was, as many of you i suppose, blown away by the awesome sound they made. (I mean their album “The Cross”)

The thing that followed was “Dirty French House” or “Electroclash”. Many think “How do they do that?”

A few years ago, when i was a teenager, i loved making music with really distorted sounds. Now that i am an adult i was scared by distorting too much, but that’s what they do!

In this tutorial we will make two seperate sounds covering the basic workflow of “Dirty French House”.

While you probably don’t want to sound just like Justice, you can learn a lot from studying how electronic musicians do what they do.

Video site Vimeo has teamed up with the band Justice on a new video contest – HOW WERE YOU GREAT IN 2008?

Justice live, via Elite Force

French dance gurus Justice offered a little lawyer-bait in an interview with MTV, revealing that they didn’t bother to clear many of the samples they used on their debut album, Cross. 

Speaking to MTV, Gaspard Auge and Xavier de Rosnay confirmed what many fans have suspected for a while when they said: “we sample really small bits of things that nobody can recognise”.

“If you listen to Genesis, the first track, there are samples of Slipknot, Queen and 50 Cent, but they are such short samples no one can recognise them. The ones from Slipknot, for example, are just tiny bits of the voice.”

Justice did make sure that the obviously lifted material was legit. ”On the album, we used three big samples that we had to clear,” they confirmed.

It’s safe to assume that they didn’t clear their statements with their lawyer, either.

The music video for Stress, by French electronica duo Justice, is creating a furor.

The video, directed by Romain Gavras, depicts gang members “wreaking havoc as they swarm from their neglected homes in the outskirts or banlieues of Paris into the heart of the city, all to a grueling, nightmarish electro beat.”

Followed by a camera crew from their housing project to Sacre Coeur to Charles de Gaulle airport, they harass women, break a bottle over a café owner’s head, fight with the police and commit a carjacking. The video ends with the car set aflame and the cameraman apparently beaten unconscious. The screen goes black, and a final, garbled voice screams in French, ‘Does filming this get you off, you S.O.B?’”

According to Justice, the video isn’t a glorification of gang violence, but “a parody of the way the major television channels treat the news.”

What do you think? Does this have any artistic merit, or do you think Justice is just trying to use shock to generate some hype?
