In this video, superproducer Alan Parsons reponds to Twitter question about the future of MIDI:

@RevNelson: What do you hope to see in the next 5-10 years for the MIDI specification? Do you think it will move to Ethernet connector?

This Twitter-based interview follows the interview we posted yesterday with Trent Reznor, which featured questions from Digg users.

Do you think that social networking tools like Digg & Twitter lead to better musician interviews? Read more…

Tenori On

Got $1,200?

Then maybe it’s time to get your Tenori-On.

Keyfax NewMedia has announced that it has Yamaha’s Tenori-On in stock.

With that in mind, here are five reasons to get your Tenori-On:

  1. Ooh, the pretty lights.
  2. It’s cheaper than a Monome.
  3. You’ve got a better demo video in you than Yamaha’s boring demo Tenori-On videos.
  4. You want to use it with Kyma to hypnotize synth bloggers.
  5. You can’t convince your girlfriend to try bikini wrestling as an experimental music controller.

OK – maybe these aren’t five great reasons to get a Tenori-On. Call me skeptical about this pretty set of on-off switches.

But if you’re planning on getting a Tenori-On, I’d be interested in hearing why you like it. Let me know in the comments!

Sound AdviceKeyfax has released Sound Advice – a DVD almost 9 hours in length providing ‘no parameter left behind’ information and expertise on analog-style synth programming and digital effects.

Sound Advice’s 3 DVDs encompass:

  • Synth programming techniques
  • An exhaustive parameter-by-parameter guide
  • Digital effects

The DVD’s navigation system allows you to use Sound Advice in many different ways: As a complete master class tutorial, as a work of reference (you can search individual sound parameters), or as an encyclopedia of techniques and sound types (creating pads, modifying sound FX etc).

“All you need to know about oscillators, filters, envelopes, dynamics and effects that will enable you to produce the sound that you are looking for on your synth – totally from scratch,” says legendary producer and 2007 GRAMMY nominee Alan Parsons. Read more…

Keyfax Arp GeneratorKEYFAX NewMedia has announced the world’s first arpeggio editor for the Motif ES, S90ES, and MO series workstations.

ArpManager, an independent application written in France and exclusively distributed by KEYFAX, enables users to compile and create brand new arpeggio collections on a PC.

Featuring a simple user interface, you can drag and drop individual arpeggios from one collection to another, re-naming, editing, and re-positioning them along the way – capabilities totally impossible on the instruments themselves.

ArpManager is especially for S90ES owners who are currently unable to even create a User Arpeggio bank on the S90ES. ArpMananger lets you assemble a bank on the PC and then load the completed file into the S90ES.

User Arpeggio sources include people’s own creations, plus collections of drum loops, and guitar strums.

ArpMananger is available for download direct on www.motifator.com for $29.95.

A lot of people are singing about how screwed up the world is, and I don’t think that everybody wants to hear about that all the time. — Mariah Carey
