This is a video demo of the Formant Synthesizer, a synth DIY project published in Elektor magazine between 1977-1979.
It was the first mini analogue synthesizer around with modular construction that could be built at home at an affordable price. A tribute article appears in Elektor, April 2008.

This new video by Richard Lainhart, Pneuma, is based on growth patterns generated by cellular automata software, processed in Adobe After Effects to create constantly changing structures ranging from the crystalline to the architectural.
We previously highlighted another cool visualization by Lainhart, Lux,
The soundtrack is a live improvisation on the Buchla 200e analog modular synthesizer, controlled [...]

A quicky video demonstrating the sonic mangling capacity of the Wiard Wogglebug.
The Wogglebug is an analog electronic instrument designed by Grant Richter, and inspired by Don Buchla. Grant has made the circuit available to the synth DIY community, and versions are showing up in all types of modular formats.

A little modular synth porn flic demonstrating the polyphonic “switch on time” feature of the Moon Modular M563:
People asking: “What is SWITCH ON TIME”? at the M563 trigger sequencer.
With SOT you can define and optimize the width of your trigger/gate output signal. There are more creative possibilities: e.g. the SOT function manipulates the envelope generator times, [...]

Ahhh. Times were simpler in the 70’s, when you could snap a picture of Santa next to his Moog and expect to sell some cheesy electronic music records.
If you know anything about this photo or the record it must have accompanied, let me know in the comments.

The Moon Modular 563 is a Moog modular format trigger sequencer. Four rows of toggles control eight steps of four trigger voices.
Per YuSynth:
This Moon Modular 563 module is apparently the commercial version of a module that was custom-made for Gert Jalass. For Xmas 2006, Gert Jalass sent me a Xmas card showing his sequencer unit [...]

This colorful video features sound artist Charles Cohen improvising on a 1970’s Buchla Music Easel.
This extremely rare instrument is one of Don Buchla’s 200 series. Buchla (a pioneer of audio synthesis) only manufactured 14 of these units. The entire film was edited from an hour-long set of free improvisation, with audio was taken directly from [...]
