Tapco Thump AmpNAMM Update: Designed by the same team that produced Mackie’s best-selling compact active loudspeakers, TAPCO’s THUMP TH-15A Active Loudspeaker’s two-way bass reflex (ported) design provides accurate response from 20kHz all the way down to 40Hz.

If these are anything like Mackie’s SRM 450’s, they’re going to sound very good.

Class D circuitry drives a custom, high-precision 15-inch woofer to greater volumes with less heat than is possible with other designs. Additional onboard electronics include full system protection and 3-band EQ with swept midrange for maximum clarity.

Features:

  • 2-way, bi-amplified, optimized active loudspeaker system
  • Ported, bass reflex design for enhanced bass performance
  • Frequency Response (40Hz -20kHz)
  • 24dB/octave crossover at 3kHz
  • 15″ high-precision LF driver
  • Low-frequency over-excursion protection
  • 1″ compression driver
  • 180W LF amp / 60W HF amp
  • XLR Mic/Line input and pass thru
  • 3-Band EQ with Sweepable Mid for clarity (with bypass)
  • High SPL Output/Low Distortion
  • Ideal for pole-mounting or stage monitor position
  • Tough, impact-resistant polypropylene enclosure
  • High-density adiabatic fiberfill absorbs internal reflections
  • Convenient integrated handles in both sides and top
  • Lightest, most portable Active Loudspeaker in its class (36 lbs!)
  • Designed by award-winning Mackie Active team

69NAMM: TAPCO introduced its Series 69 professional-quality passive speakers.

Series 69 Loudspeakers offer premium drivers, PVC vinyl-covered wood enclosures, custom-molded thermoplastic edge bumpers.

Series Features:

  • Premium Mackie-designed woofers and compression drivers
  • PVC vinyl covered, multi-ply birch wood enclosures with protective edge bumpers
  • Most compact portable cabinet designs in their class
  • Speakon and 1/4″ TS inputs
  • Pole mountable

Mackie SRM150 Compact PA System

2007 NAMM Update: Mackie announced the debut of the newest member of the SRM family, the SRM150.

I’ve got a pair of SRM450’s, and have been very happy with them, so it’s great to see a compact member of the family.

The Mackie SRM150 Compact Active PA System is a versatile and expandable solution for a variety of sound reinforcement needs. With 150 watts of Class D amplification and the 5.25″ EAW-designed, full-range neodymium driver, the SRM150 delivers higher sound pressure levels (SPL) than competitive products.

“The SRM150 integrates the proven technology from the SRM series — along with an easy-to-use onboard mixer — in a compact package,” said Mackie Brand Group Vice President John Boudreau.

M-Audio EX66 digital monitorsNAMM 2006 Winter Show: M-Audio announced the M-Audio EX Series EX66 digital high-definition studio reference monitors. Sold separately, the monitors integrate easily into both 2-channel and multichannel environments.

“The M-Audio EX66 monitor represents the culmination of years of research,” according to Adam Castillo, marketing director at M-Audio. “We wanted to start from scratch, developing new technology to make a monitor that can hold it’s own against anything on the market. Both the specs and the sound of the M-Audio EX66 monitor are unrivaled at any price, let alone this value. The proof is in the listening.”

The M-Audio EX66 uses a midwoofer-tweeter-midwoofer (MTM) vertical array configuration to provide optimal imaging. Traditional 2-way speaker designs can cause significant early reflections from consoles, floors and ceilings, resulting in coloration and smeared details in the audio. In the M-Audio EX66 monitor’s MTM design, the interaction of the two large drivers with the tweeter channels the sound into a much narrower vertical band, thereby eliminating many of these reflection problems. The design simultaneously provides a large, coherent horizontal radiation pattern, giving you and your colleagues a much wider sweet spot. Read more…

Traynor keyboard ampYorkville has added the all-new ultra-compact 200-watt K2 to their tube-driven keyboard amplifier line. The K2 is the smallest keyboard amplifier to offer Traynor’s innovative tube / solid-state input and proprietary Voicing circuitry, first introduced on its big brother, the K4. This unique input design makes the Traynor K2 more than a monitor, but part of the keyboard player’s tone pallet.

The compact K2 is also a convenient and powerful wedge monitor, designed for the live stage. Although it’s small enough to fit easily under almost any keyboard rig, the 3-way speaker system delivers a full 200-watts to the stage, more than enough for most live applications. The innovative third channel post master input (located on the back of the K2) allows an additional signal to be fed to the amplifier, without feeding it to the pre-master line output. This allows sources like monitor feeds from the front of house mix, a drum machine click tracks or cue sends to be amplified on stage by the K2, without feeding them to the house mix. Read more…
