Vote For The Hottest New Synth Of Musikmesse 2011!

Musikmesse 2011

Have you weighed in on the hottest new synth of Musikmesse 2011 yet?

It was actually a pretty good year for hardware synths. Korg introduced a new synth + sequencer combination, the Korg Monotribe. Roland introduced the massive Jupiter 80 synthesizer. Yamaha introduced the budget-minded Mox 6 & 8 keyboards. Nord came through with the Electro 3 HP.

Other introductions included: the Vermona PerFourMer Mk11 polyphonic synthesizer; the Elektrokosmos Kosmonaut; and some interesting new modular synth modules. And one of the surprises of the show was the Schmidt Analog Synthesizer – an all-analog monster synth.

If you haven’t weighed in yet – take a chance and vote for the hottest new synth from Musikmesse below.

Roland Jupiter-80 Synth Workshop

This video captures an in-depth intro/workshop, by Scott Tibbs, introducing the Roland Jupter-80 synthesizer at Musikmesse Frankfurt 2011.

When Roland introduced the Jupiter-80, a lot of Synthtopia readers reacted to what it wasn’t – an analog monster-synth in the Jupiter legacy.

This video has enough sound demos to let you start judging the Jupiter-80 for what it is – a high-end digital monster-synth – and judge it on its own merits.

Check it out and let us know what you think of the audio demos!

KOMA Elektronik BD101 Analog Gate & Delay (Sneak Preview)

YouTube Preview Image

Christian from KOMA Elektronik shows the prototype of the KOMA BD101 Analog Gate and Delay at the 2011 Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany.

Here’s what he has to say about the BD101:

KOMA BD101: Mangle and cut your sound apart with an innovative vactrol controlled analog delay circuit in combination with a fully adjustable wide range frequency gate. It sounds like you’re playing your instrument on the porch outside of your house and inside your amp is slowly sinking in the toilet, CV controlled of course. This might sound strange, but that’s just what this pedal is about: create weird resonant frequencies, shift between heavy delayed sounds and super short pulses, with whatever instrument you want to plug into it.

The BD101 comes standard with a solid footswitch, multiple inputs, an audio and control voltage patchbay and our new innovative expression controller.

Pricing and availability are TBA.

Musikmesse Rumor – The Korg Monotribe Analog Electribe

Korg MonotribeMusikmesse 2011 rumor: What would you do if you were Korg, and two of your hottest products in recent years were the Monotron and the Electribe?

If you think like me, you’d try cross-breeding them to see what happens.

And it looks like something like this may be in the works….

Korg recently registered the name Monotribe as a trademark for “multi-track rhythm and drum machines”. It was published for opposition yesterday, 3/29/2011.

We’d like to see the Korg Monotribe turn out to be Monotron-style synth with an Electribe-style sequencer – sort of a modern take on the classic Roland TB-303 bassline synthesizer. If they could to this at “Electribe sized” prices, it would be a monster hit.

At this time, though, the Korg Monotribe is just a rumor. A pretty cool rumor.

Discuss.

Roland released this teaser video for something – but they’re not telling what:

“A dramatic transformation has begun.

The spirit of a legend re-emerges.

An amazing new instrument takes form.

Prepare for a new musical beginning.”

What’s Roland’s amazing new instrument? Is it called the Roland Metamorphosis?

We don’t know what Roland’s amazing new instrument is. And, if we do know, we can’t tell you until the start of Musikmesse 2011. Unless it gets outed first on some obscure foreign-language music blog.

So in the meantime – what’s Roland’s ‘amazing new instrument’?

Da Fact Karlax Is The Most Bizarre New Instrument Of The Year

YouTube Preview Image

Musikmesse 2010: Da Fact, a French music instrument company, has introduced Karlax – a new type of MIDI controller designed to “re-establish the artist’s body at the heart of the performance.”

The Da Fact Karlax is designed to capture a variety of expressive movements which can be accessed in a simple, intuitive manner.

Da Facts:

Its sensors are fitted to precision mechanics components. The innovative architecture allows pistons, keys, switches, benders, triggers, a rotation axis and an inertial unit (comprising an inclinometer, accelerometer and a 3-axis gyroscope) to be activated separately or simultaneously.

An embedded screen for displaying and editing settings makes it possible to safely leave the computer off stage. With the product comes also a dedicated software compatible with both MAC and PC.

“Karlax pushes the boundaries of language,” says Nils Aziosmanoff, Chairman of LE CUBE, a creative centre devoted entirely to the digital arts. “The creative process is increasingly becoming an experience to savour: we are adopting an exploratory approach to creativity, instead of the previous contemplative, passive approach.”

An initial, limited numbered series has been announced for Q4, for an estimated price of 3500€ (excluding VAT)

Check out Da Fact Karlax and leave a comment with your thoughts! Continue reading
