Music Studio: Unboxing the Korg OASYS Synthesizer

via adiblasi:

I made a ‘crown jewel’ addition to my synth collection, specifically, the Korg OASYS 88.

This clip will give you an intro to this amazing synth, and allow you to share the joy in unboxing and playing this keyboard for the very first time!

These guys had a lot of fun unboxing the Korg OASYS synth, “divorced, separated from the music studio!”

ELP synth god Keith Emerson is working on a new album, and has a lot to say about it.

“I can honestly say that my forthcoming album, which has all new compositions, truly defines all that I have worked for, not only in my musical life, but in my entire life!” says Emerson.

“My new album takes in a lot of my past while making a huge departure into the future – hence the OASYS,“ he explains. “Bob Moog’s creation was, for me, the mother of all inventions which allowed great companies, such as Korg, to take it further. The material covers pretty much the history of prog rock and beyond; it is very organic.”

As for album names, after judging his initial ideas as sounding “too contrived,” Keith has gone for the most straightforward option. “ELP’s first album was just called Emerson, Lake and Palmer,” he explains, “therefore my first original studio band album will simply be called The Keith Emerson Band, featuring Marc Bonilla.” Read more…

Karma-Lab has updated its site, and added the Karma-Lab Wiki, which aims to build a library of useful “how to” information for working with the various keyboards, music workstations and software incorporating KARMA technology.

It features articles covering all aspects of the products that incorporate KARMA (such as Korg Keyboards like the M3, OASYS, Karma Workstation, Triton w/KARMA software and more).

Korg M3 Workstation Sampler

2007 Winter NAMM Show: Korg introduced the droolworthy M3 Music Workstation/Sampler. The new keyboard represents the third generation of Music Workstations from Korg. It inherits elements from the flagship Oasys, distilled into an affordable music production package with a new tone generator, a wealth of innovations and new sounds.

This new chip-based synthesis system, EDS (Enhanced Definition Synthesis) shares much of the Oasys’ HD-1 lineage, including low-aliasing oscillators, a powerful new filter topology, detailed envelope generators, plus a Drive parameter and AMS Mixers. All second-generation KARMA functions from the Oasys are included.

256 MB of ROM incorporates the “best-of” OASYS ROM into a new soundset. 512 Programs and 384 Combinations are onboard, with space for 1,664 Programs and 1,792 Combinations. For increased power, the EXB-RADIAS expansion board adds a 24-voice, single timbre version of the MMT synthesizer used by the RADIAS and R3 synths.

      something to think about

Music in itself carries a whole set of messages which are very, very rich and complex, and the words either serve to exclude certain ones or point up certain others. — Brian Eno
