This video captures a monome-based remix of Radiohead’s Reckoner. Details on the remix below.

The track is available as a free download (mp3).

via suitemusic:

This is a video of a remix performance of Radiohead’s “Reckoner” from In Rainbows that I’ve been working out on the monome for a while now.

I’m using my monome 64 running mlrV to chop and sequence each track/loop. The black monome 40h I built with ultraviolet (UV) LEDs is running vu scroll (a scrolling VU meter app) which is picking up the sound in the studio from the laptop’s built-in mic.

All of the audio was recorded and mixed down in Ableton Live 8. I used my laptop’s iSight and a small Sony for the video. I used Adobe Premier Pro CS4 to edit the video (it was my first time using Premier Pro for a project).

Thanks go out to Radiohead for providing the stems of their music and especially monome.org and the monome community for its collective genius and overall awesomeness!

Radiohead – Paranoid Android on Mario Paint Composer w/lyrics.

So you can sing along to the 8-bit glory of Radiohead.

via adolfobaez:

Radiohead is one of my favorite bands and this is their best song IMO,

This song is from the album Ok Computer, it´s considered by many one of the best rock albums of all time.

This is the most difficult song I´ve made using Mario Paint Composer but because of the hype that I´ll see Radiohead live on March I decided to make it.

I slightly modified some chords in the middle part to make them sound better with the original MPC soundfont and I left out 15 seconds of the end because that part just didn´t sound right with the MPC instruments, oh and I also made the song a little bit faster, more like when they play it live.

I’m a fan of Glenn Marshall’s music videos and his latest video shows why.

It’s a generative video exploration of Radiohead’s Bodysnatchers, from In Rainbows.

Here’s how Marshall explains how the audio is interacting with the generative video:

1. Bass guitar – makes the red shading on the red zeno pulsate.
2. Lead guitar – affects intensity of inner glows of both zenos.
3. Treble – affects size of sprites.
4. Vocal – additional affector to red sprite size, affects speed and directions of all sprites, affects size of stars in background.
5. X Factor – this is the name I gave to the overall amplitude – an ‘excitement’ factor. This controls the camera Z depth (near/far) – loudness brings us closer in, quieter breaks bring us out again. This was important to get that sense of a non-static journey and spatial interest that married with the music. The X Factor also increases the speed of the zenos growing, and the intensity of the blue cloud.

Audio analysis is an art in itself, finding whats interesting, isolating cleanly from everything else, and hooking it up with the visuals somehow. You can see there are endless variables and permutations to play with, which makes it a fascinating form of audio visual art, especially when mixed in with generative animation.

Radiohead has written new music for the soundtrack to the new movie adaptation of Fight Club and Snuff author Chuck Palahniuk’s book Choke.

Speaking to BBC 6 Music on the Shaun Keaveny Breakfast Show, Palahniuk explained it all came from his love of the band’s music, saying:

“Clark Gregg, who directed the movie version of Choke which comes out on September 26 (in the US), he knew that I’d written Choke while listening to Radiohead’s Pablo Honey, with Creep, over and over and over,” said Palahniuk.”

“So Clark got Radiohead to contribute a song; to write a song for the very end of the movie, the final credits. Apparently Radiohead liked the movie so much, they’ve written the score, most of the ambient music throughout it,” adds Palahniuk. “So it’s ‘Choke – with the music of Radiohead’.

Sounds like it should be a treat for Radiohead fans.

Update: false alarm

Radiohead’s Thom Yorke has announced that you can download their video for House of Cards for free:

so as you may know we have completed a video for the song- it has been in the land of google, and now also if you want to download a higher quality version without the internet streaming pixellation squash and enjoy it on whatever screen appliance, click here to download (.zip).

it was a strange experience, sitting in front of a lazer in the dark, then emailing back an forth with James the director as he sat in front of computers for a whole month with the amazing technicians who processed the data etc.. but it says something about the song and came out better than i had dared hope.

In House of Cards, no cameras or lights were used. Instead, 3D plotting technologies collected information about the shapes and relative distances of objects. The video was created entirely with visualizations of that data.

This is a rather amazing lo-fi remix of Radiohead’s Nude. Here’s the scoop on it:

This is a rather amazing lo-fi remix of Radiohead’s Nude. Here’s the scoop on it:

Radiohead held an online contest to remix “Nude” from their album – “In Rainbows” This was quite a difficult task for all the electronic musicians that entered, as Nude is in 6/8 timing, and 63bpm. Most music that’s played in clubs is around 120bpm and usually 4/4 timing. It’s near impossible to mix a waltz beat into a DJ set.

This resulted in lots of generic entries consisting of a typical 4/4 beat, but with arbitrary clips from “Nude” thrown in so that they qualified for the contest.

Thom Yorke joked at the ridiculousness of it in an interview for NPR radio, hinting that they set the competition “for a laugh” and to find out what would come out of such an impossible task.

I decided to take the piss a bit, as the contest seemed to be in that spirit.

Based on the lyric (and alternate title) “Big Ideas: Don’t get any” I grouped together a collection of old redundant hardware, and placed them in a situation where they’re trying their best to do something that they’re not exactly designed to do, and not quite getting there.

It doesn’t sound great, as it’s not supposed to.

Sinclair ZX Spectrum – Guitars (rhythm & lead)
Epson LX-81 Dot Matrix Printer – Drums
HP Scanjet 3c – Bass Guitar
Hard Drive array – Act as a collection of bad speakers – Vocals & FX

Robert Hodgin put together this stunning generative music video for Radiohead’s video contest, but realized that the result didn’t have that much to do with Radiohead.
It’s very cool, just the same.

Minneapolis Hates Kraftwerk – the Minneapolis Star Tribune says that Kraftwerk’s show there was a snoozer – “With all the flair of a power-point presentation at a mortgage-foreclosure seminar!” Electronica fans at the show have different opinions.

Radiohead Wants You To Pay To Get Nude – I complained about Radiohead charging $5 to let you remix their tracks, when NIN and others bend over backwards to get you to remix their work. A lot of people paid the $5, though, had fun and want you to check out their remixes. What do you think?

I thought that the Roland C-30 Digital Harpsichord was stupidtacular – synth technology is so cheap and so advanced that it’s becoming less relevant than pretty packaging. A couple of readers took me to task and offered perspectives worth considering: “In a product designed for music, you would think that sound and playability are paramount, but as Apple has demonstrated with the iPod, looks can be more important than sound and convenience.”

Our review of Nine Inch Nail’s Ghosts I-IV continues to generate discussion. I thought Ghosts I-IV is less important as a collection of music than as an event. Others loved the release, saying things like “It expanded my mind.”

Thanks to everybody for your comments – they add a lot to the stories.

Keep the comments coming and check out what others are saying, too!

Radiohead, like a lot of other bands, wants to let you make remixes of their latest single, Nude.

Unlike other bands, though, they want you to pay for the privilege:

Yep – they want you to pay six bucks for the privilege of remixing their song and maybe introducing them to a new audience.

Maybe you think that’s cool. A lot of people seem to – there are already over 800 remixes of Nude.

It stinks of crap to me, though.

Thom Yorke needs to check out Nine Inch Nails‘ approach. They’ve been releasing Garageband stems of their music for years, now.

They’ve been releasing their music with Creative Commons licenses that let you do what you want with the remixes.

They’ve been letting you download and share other fan remixes.

In other words – they get it.

What do you think? Is nickel and diming your biggest fans make sense, or is Radiohead full of it?

Here are the details:

Radiohead, iTunes and GarageBand are giving you the opportunity to remix the band’s new single “Nude”.

To make remixing easy, the separate ’stems’* from the song are available to purchase from iTunes _here_. The ’stems’ available are bass, voice, guitar, strings/fx and drums. You can mix them in any way you like, either by adding your own beats and instrumentation, or just remixing the original parts.

If you purchase all five ’stems’ from iTunes during the first week they’re available, you’ll be sent an access code to a GarageBand file ready to open in GarageBand or Logic. However, you don’t need GarageBand to do a remix, all the stems are in iTunes Plus format and compatible with several music software platforms. The GarageBand file will be emailed out on April 11th.

Finished mixes can be uploaded _here_ where the public will listen and vote for their favourite remix (voting ends May 1st). You can also create a widget allowing votes from your own website, Facebook or MySpace page to be counted as ‘mix votes’ back on radioheadremix.com. Radiohead will listen to the best remixes.

Nude is out now in the UK on CD, 7″ and download.

*’stems’ are the component parts of the song.
