Download the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band’s The Sun Is Down! Sample Pack containing the a capella tracks of Yoko’s vocal, vocal effects, and loops of bass, drums, efx and Tenori On.

Create your own remix of The Sun Is Down!, using as many or few of the samples from the pack and any original audio you wish to add.

When you have finished your mix, make an MP3 copy that’s as high quality as possible, but still under 10MB in size. Email the MP3 of your mix, along with its name and your name, address, email and phone number to remix@YOPOB.com before 12 December 2009.

The Top Ten mixes will be decided by Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band.

The winners will receive special signed Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band prizes and will be featured on Ono’s site over the Xmas and New Year period.

Röyksopp has announced a new remix contest:

You can download their latest track, Tricky, Tricky, for free using the SoundCloud player above. You can also download the parts, remix the track and enter their remix contest, which offers copies of Ableton Live as the prize.

Details on the contest are available at the Röyksopp site. Make sure you check out the contest rules for the legal low-down; while you can download the track and its parts for free, Röyksopp retains distribution rights for Tricky, Tricky and remixes based on the track.

The Crystal Method, Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland, have announced a remix contest with Indaba Music.

Remix their track Come Back Clean, and you could win a microKorg XL and get your mix featured on TCM’s site.

Come Back Clean, from their new album Divided By Night, features Metric vocalist Emily Haines and drummer Samantha Maloney (Hole, Motley Crue, Peaches, Chelsea Girls). Check out the video above to get an inside look at Crystalwerks studio and get a glimpse of how the song was created.

For this album we’re again going to put up the entire album. In August we’ll be putting together a digital release called Imaginashun – Power to the people, which will be chocker block with remixes from pro’s and bedroom producers from around the world, along with images from cartoonists, graffiti artists and illustrators.

The Public Enemy Remix Contest challenges musicians to create an original remix of an a cappella version of the group’s track “Harder Than You Think,” from their current album How You Sell Soul to a Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul.

Chuck D and Johnny Juice of Public Enemy will judge entries uploaded to the M-Audio website, and the winner will receive a complete home studio setup from M-Audio.

The winning remix will also be released on 12-inch vinyl by Obey Records. Backed with an exclusive unreleased Public Enemy track, the vinyl release will feature unique artwork created by graphic artist Shepard Fairey. All profits from the vinyl sale will be donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

The contest will run until September 30, 2008, with the grand-prize winner announced in late October.

Yep – they want you to pay six bucks for the privilege of remixing their song and maybe introducing them to a new audience.

Maybe you think that’s cool. A lot of people seem to – there are already over 800 remixes of Nude.

It stinks of crap to me, though.

Thom Yorke needs to check out Nine Inch Nails‘ approach. They’ve been releasing Garageband stems of their music for years, now.

They’ve been releasing their music with Creative Commons licenses that let you do what you want with the remixes.

They’ve been letting you download and share other fan remixes.

In other words – they get it.

Here are the details:

Radiohead, iTunes and GarageBand are giving you the opportunity to remix the band’s new single “Nude”.

To make remixing easy, the separate ’stems’* from the song are available to purchase from iTunes _here_. The ’stems’ available are bass, voice, guitar, strings/fx and drums. You can mix them in any way you like, either by adding your own beats and instrumentation, or just remixing the original parts.

If you purchase all five ’stems’ from iTunes during the first week they’re available, you’ll be sent an access code to a GarageBand file ready to open in GarageBand or Logic. However, you don’t need GarageBand to do a remix, all the stems are in iTunes Plus format and compatible with several music software platforms. The GarageBand file will be emailed out on April 11th.

Finished mixes can be uploaded _here_ where the public will listen and vote for their favourite remix (voting ends May 1st). You can also create a widget allowing votes from your own website, Facebook or MySpace page to be counted as ‘mix votes’ back on radioheadremix.com. Radiohead will listen to the best remixes.

Months before the official street release date, fans and music-producer hopefuls are getting a chance to create their own versions of the upcoming dance release. Individual samples of the song are available for download and contestants can use their favorite music editing software to remix the Cirrus song. Remixes can be uploaded to the ACIDplanet.com website for entry into the competition and the winner will receive over $700 worth of Sony ACID software and sounds. The contest ends Monday, December 13, 2004.
