Download the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band’s The Sun Is Down! Sample Pack containing the a capella tracks of Yoko’s vocal, vocal effects, and loops of bass, drums, efx and Tenori On.

Create your own remix of The Sun Is Down!, using as many or few of the samples from the pack and any original audio you wish to add.

The Crystal Method, Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland, have announced a remix contest with Indaba Music.

Remix their track Come Back Clean, and you could win a microKorg XL and get your mix featured on TCM’s site.

Come Back Clean, from their new album Divided By Night, features Metric vocalist Emily Haines and drummer Samantha Maloney (Hole, Motley Crue, Peaches, Chelsea Girls). Check out the video above to get an inside look at Crystalwerks studio and get a glimpse of how the song was created.

“Non-music fuckhead” DJ Steve Porter probably “dicked around on a Macintosh” to come up with this remix of Henry Rollins’ rant against Jungle Trance Hip Hop Fuckin’ Shit Music.

Henry Rollins makes a colorful case against over-produced popular electronic music.

But Steve Porter totally turns Rollins’ rant inside out, turning it into a track ready to be put on a white label and sent to the clubs.

Think we have to chalk this battle up to Porter.

The remix, for Catherine AD’s Carry Your Heart, comes via the WearsTheTrousers. Here’s what they have to say about it:

Tara Busch is at it again. Just a few weeks after her genius reworking of the Bat For Lashes hit ‘Daniel’, she’s turned in a typically complex, multilayered remix of recent Catherine AD single, ‘Carry Your Heart’. The second in a series of remixes that Catherine is gathering together for a free EP, it follows last week’s intensely atmospheric Sweet Billy Pilgrim remix of the previously unreleased ‘Hand To The Tide’ (also free to download below) and is every bit as transformative.

Described by Catherine herself as “mad as a hat stand: a Disney-shaped hat stand”, Tara has put her bank of analogue organs and synths to good use, cleverly reworking the main keyboard melody with a beautifully simple motif of layered flutes and other goodies, interspersed with various bursts of fizzing synths, a clanging bell and all manner of futuristic squelches beamed in from a galaxy of emptiness. Like paying a visit to the singing roses of Wonderland after a midsummer nap in the poppy fields of Oz, Tara’s distant coos and mutterings are a lovely added touch.

Make sure you visit the site because there’s another Catherine AD remix, for the track Hand To The Tide, and some video action to boot.

This is a video for project Sincura’s cover of Vangelis’ Blade Runner end titles theme.

The electronic drums on this cover don’t pack enough wallop for my taste, but this cover made me realize how horrifically bad the New American Orchestra’s Orchestral Adaptation Of Music Composed For The Motion Picture By Vangelis really is.

For this album we’re again going to put up the entire album. In August we’ll be putting together a digital release called Imaginashun – Power to the people, which will be chocker block with remixes from pro’s and bedroom producers from around the world, along with images from cartoonists, graffiti artists and illustrators.

DJ Vadim’s new album comes out May 25th 2009. We’re starting off putting up just 2 tracks, but more will follow…

Adrian Champion’s Stars and Stripes Project is a White Stripes/hip-hop mashup featuring 12 remixes based on White Strips classic tracks, plus a new track from Adrian Champion, featuring Brian Jacobs.

The remixes feature Mos Def, Outkast, Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes, 2Pac, Nas, M.O.P, Eminem, Jay-Z, Redman, Common, and Pharoahe Monch.

Earlier in the week, we put up a post on 9 Flavors of Popcorn, a collection of music videos for a variety of versions of the synthpop classic.

Once again, though, a Synthtopia reader, Ian Page-Echols, has topped us – finding an ancient WFMU post that offers no less than 79 covers of Popcorn. They cheat a little and use Prodigy’s Popcorn Techno Dance 99 Remix 1 twice, but it’s a pretty good cover, so why not?

Others on board for this massive collection include Aphex Twin, Kraftwerk, The Boston Pops & twisted children’s musician and techno pioneer Bruce Haack.

Britney Spears’ Toxic was a guilty pleasure a few years ago, and when you mash it up with Metallica, it only gets better.

Some might argue, though, that you could add Metallica to just about anything and make it better.

Imogen Heap wrote a track recently that was supposed to feature at the end of TV show. She wrote the song and recorded all the vocals, leaving the music for the composer who was writing the rest of the score. For one reason or another the song wasn’t used and so the track never got completed.

Now, Imogen wants you to download the parts and add your own musical interpretation.

ou can then upload your mix to her SoundCloud Dropbox and put the best efforts up for everyone to listen to and enjoy. Preview the track below in the player and download the separate vocal stems as WAV audio. There’s a click track at 95bpm to help you out too. If you set your sequencer / DAW to this tempo, then place all the files so they start at bar 1, all the parts will be in sync and at the correct tempo.

Sometimes you should just let a dead guy rest.

When the dead guy is Nat King Cole, whose jazz trio recordings of the forties are some of the best that jazz has to offer, you should leave well enough alone.

Doing an album of Nat King Cole remixes, 44 years after his death, is like pissing on his grave.

The forthcoming remix compilation RE: Generations “aims to construct a tuneful bridge between generations, cultures and races.
