Filed under: Computer Hardware, Software Effects & Audio ProcessorsNAMM Show: Roland Corporation and Universal Audio have announced that Universal Audio will develop, market and sell plug-in emulations of classic Roland processors for UA’s popular UAD-1 DSP card.
The first three Roland products to be released as UAD-1 plug-ins, the Dimension D Chorus, the CE-1 Chorus and the Roland RE-201 Space Echo, will be made available to customers over the course of 2005.
“Universal Audio has a demonstrated ability to create extremely accurate emulations of classic signal processors,” said Tom Stephenson, Roland’s Manager of Recording Technologies. “In order for Roland to license its trademarks, we must be certain that the level of quality and performance our customers have come to expect is maintained. This is why we are so pleased that Universal Audio will be developing these plug-ins for their UAD-1 platform.”
“We are truly honored to have been selected by Roland to emulate these classic products,” said Universal Audio’s president Matt Ward. “This is a great tribute to the care and detail our DSP and user interface designers put into each plug-in emulation we create. These Roland products have been very high on the request list of our UAD-1 customers and they will be very excited by this announcement.”
Universal Audio plans to release the Dimension D to the UAD-1 user base in the second quarter of 2005. The CE-1 chorus will follow in Q3 and the RE-201 will be release in Q4, 2005.
SpinAudio has announced the release of RoomVerb for PowerCore 1.0.
RoomVerb is based on Virtual Room Acoustic modeling technique designed to simulate various acoustic spaces from small bath rooms to large halls using a single set of parameters. Such an approach provides a unified way of controlling reverb and removes the limits inherited in traditional reverb design schemes based on either pre-defined algorithms or pre-calculated room response patterns.

The product is available in VST (PC/MAC OS X) and AudioUnit(MAC OS X) formats. Read more…
Sonoma Wire Works has released a collection of seven new effects available in one convenient VST plug-in called Sonoma 7 VST. Included are effects like auto-wah, multiband compression, modulation, delay, reverb, and parametric EQ.
By combining all seven effects into one plug-in, musicians get convenient access to multi-effect presets, and the ability to instantiate more effects without using up extra insert or send locations. Each effect can be enabled or disabled separately, and by using a single window, screen clutter is minimized.
The seven effects included in Sonoma 7 VST boast sleek user interfaces designed with familiar knobs and buttons that are easy to grasp. These seven effects can also be found in RiffWorks recording software available with Line 6 GuitarPort RiffTracker. Read more…
Waves Ltd. has announced a major expansion of its IR Convolution Reverb plug-in series. Added are IR-360, for multi-channel surround sound; IR-1 Version 2, which now lets users capture their own samples; and IR-L, an entry-level light version offering simpler controls. Waves also announced the launch of www.Acoustics.net, a dedicated website offering a newly expanded library of downloadable impulse response samples created by the company and submitted by users.
“We’re challenging the status quo by offering more products, better samples, and far more control over the sound than our competitors — all with the pristine sonic quality for which Waves is known,” commented Waves CEO Gilad Keren.
Waves first entered the convolution reverb market with the IR-1, the only sampling reverb to offer traditional reverb controls that affect the impulse response sample itself rather than just filtering the resulting sound. This approach retains the sample’s signature sound but allows much more flexible use than with conventional convolution reverbs. IR-360 is now the first surround sound convolution reverb to offer this control, and both IR-360 and IR-1 Version 2 now include newly added controls for even greater customization. Read more…

Filed under: Software Effects & Audio Processors, Software SequencersDigidesign has announced Trillium Lane Labs TL Space, the first and only TDM convolution reverb for Pro Tools.
Boasting near-zero latency and superb sound quality, TL Space delivers a number of technical breakthroughs that unleash the full power of the Digidesign Pro Tools|HD Accel platform, and erase the difference between high-end reverb hardware units and software reverb processing.
At its finest with Pro Tools|HD Accel, TL Space includes a full-featured reverb engine that supports mono, stereo, and surround formats. Additionally, TL Space includes a library of reverb and effect impulses for music and post applications.
TL Space delivers stunning realism by combining the sampled acoustics of real spaces with advanced DSP algorithms. Using the latest Pro Tools|HD Accel hardware to the maximum benefit, TL Space harnesses up to eight Pro Tools|HD DSP engines in parallel to deliver smooth, low-latency convolution processing, avoiding typical heavy CPU strain. The processing power of multiple HD Accel DSP engines allows TL Space to deliver near-zero latency processing, and effortless interaction with the plug-in’s library enables mixing and matching of impulses between reverbs.
TL Space is available in a TDM edition supporting TDM, HTDM, RTAS, and AudioSuite for Pro Tools|HD and HD Accel systems, as well as a Native edition supporting RTAS and AudioSuite for Pro Tools|HD or Pro Tools LE systems running Pro Tools 6.2 or newer software.
The MSRP for TL Space TDM edition is $995 US. The Native edition is $495 US.
System Requirements
- TDM Edition: Digidesign-approved Windows XP or Mac-based Pro Tools|HD system (Pro Tools |HD Accel for optimal performance) running Pro Tools TDM 6.2 or newer software
- Native Edition: Digidesign-approved Windows XP- or Mac-based Pro Tools|HD or LE system running Pro Tools 6.2 or newer software
- Both Editions: A PACE iLok USB Smart Key (purchased separately) and an iLok.com account are also required for licensing.
