Cycling ‘74 has published a tutorial on using ReWire to move MIDI and audio data between programs on a computer. It’s by Darwin Grosse, one of their development gurus and the publisher of the Creative Synth site.
It written from the Max/MSP perspective and demonstrates how you can create patches controlled by the host app.

Responding to customer requests, Intuem RW has full ReWire 2 support, audio play-through, a newly designed Mixer, several new “Pro” features, and a host of convenience features.
Intuem RW works with any ReWire 2 device, like the very popular Reason from Propellerhead Software AB. Intuem RW can receive almost any combination of audio channels from a ReWire device, and can send MIDI to any defined bus/channel on a ReWire device. Intuem RW’s new audio play-through feature lets users apply AudioUnit effects to incoming audio in real-time, and that includes ReWire audio input. Users can now listen to audio input as it will be recorded and effected before and while recording, and can listen to ReWire devices just as easily as internal DLS/SF2 MIDI instruments. Read more…
Sony ACID Pro 5

Sony has introduced ACID Pro 5 software, the latest upgrade to its loop-based music creation tool.
Enhancements include two new patent-pending technologies: The Media Manager is a new technology for browsing and tagging media assets that greatly enhances the user’s ability to track, label and store media files including loops, video and stills. Additionally, the unique Groove Mapping and Groove Cloning technologies provide enhanced ways for users to sonically interact with their loops and samples collection.
“Because ACID software is considered to be the top loop-based music creation application, we felt compelled to spend the past several years developing new technologies that once again provide users with innovative workflow enhancements and more important, new innovations for musical expression,” said Dave Chaimson, vice president of marketing for Sony Media Software.
