robotic musicians
Articles about robotic musicians:
This is a short demo of the Xylobot, a robotic xylophone created for Berlin Music Hackday, held on September 18-20 at Radialsystem V.
A custom Java app receives MIDI data from the step sequencer and controls the Arduino over a serial connection. The board then triggers the servos to hit on the xylophone.
The whole construction was built in under 24 hours and is mostly made of hot glue and wood.
Xylobot was created by Ramsey Arnaoot & Robert Böhnke.

Humanoid Robot Plays The Violin
This is creepy and cool at the same time – Toyota has created a robot that can play the violin – better than a lot of amateur violinists.
As music robots get better, it will raise a lot of questions about the unique role of musicians in creating expressive music.

You gotta love the Robotic GamelaTron of Zemi17 – and not just because its name makes you think of every cheesy sci fi movie ever made:
Zemi17 has augmented Gamelan instruments that he brought back for his time in Indonesia while the LEMUR team has built customized interfaces and robotic mechanisms to enable the playing of the Gamelan by computerized midi controlled robot arms.
