2015 NAMM Show Preview: Akai Professional today introduced a new line of control keyboards, the Advance Keyboard series, that’s designed to provide deep integration with virtual instruments.
Available in 25-, 49-, and 61-key sizes, the Advance 25, Advance 49, and Advance 61 let you load, play and control your virtual instrument plugins directly from their keyboard.
According to the company, the Advance Keyboard series has been designed “to fuse the power of software instruments with the live playability of a keyboard workstation,” transforming the use of computer-based plugins into an entirely hands-on playing experience.
Berlin-based audio software developer Eisenberg Audio has released a new software synthesizer, Vier.
If you remember high school German class, you’ll recall that Vier means four, and Eisenberg’s Vier emulates the Doepfer MS-404, the monophonic analog synthesizer from the 1990s.
The Doepfer MS-404 was a single rack device. Vier combines four independent rack modules in one interface. More than an emulation of a beloved vintage synth, Vier uses modern technologies for its synthesis engine, such as anti-aliasing oscillators, which are capable of audio range modulation and zero-delay feedback filters best known from synthesizers like LuSH, Monark or Diva. Moog Music has announced a big update to their Minitaur Editor:
“The Minitaur Editor has been rebuilt from the ground up and is now available free to all registered Minitaur owners.
In addition to the new standalone editor – VST, AU, RTAS, and AAX plugin compatibility have been added for improved DAW integration. Every feature on and under the hood of your Minitaur can now be easily accessed, automated, and recalled from within your favorite DAW.”
Following the recent launch of Avid Pro Tools 11, AIR Music Technology has released an updated and expanded AIR Instrument Expansion Pack. The new Instrument Expansion Pack offers compatibility with the latest Pro Tools AAX format, and includes two of AIR’s latest virtual instruments, Loom and Vacuum Pro, at no additional cost.
iZotope has announced that Nectar 2, the next version of their vocal processing plug-in, will be released next month (October 2013).

Virtual instrument creator SONiVOX has released Eighty Eight Ensemble 2.0, the latest version of their flagship virtual piano instrument. New features in Version 2.0 include an integrated patch browser, enhanced EQ and effects, plus current 64-bit VST and AU support.
Eighty Eight Ensemble 2.0 features a recreation of the Steinway 9-foot CD 327 grand piano. Faithful to the original piano, Eighty Eight Ensemble 2.0 captures each note of the instrument at 16 velocity levels for dynamic accuracy.
