This is a preview video for the newly remastered Vako Orchestron Disc – Saxophone.

Description:

Now available for PRE-ORDER! The first of our newly remastered Orchestron discs, SAXOPHONE. As soon as we have 15 pre-orders, we’ll go to press and start shipping. It’s unlikely that there will be sufficient demand to do a second run of 25 of these discs, so your best bet is to buy as many of these as you need while you can! Any future additional copies will most likely be done as one-offs, which are twice as expensive to produce, and thus will cost twice as much.

PLEASE NOTE: This disc WILL NOT play properly in an Optigan! They WILL play, but the sounds will NOT be mapped correctly to the keyboard- they will be mapped mostly haphazardly across the chord buttons. Please don’t order this disc expecting to easily use it in an Optigan. In the future we will be porting the Orchestron sounds to the Optigan- please be patient!

This is not a simple photocopy of an original vintage Orchestron disc, it’s completely re-mastered and re-created from scratch, using the original sounds from the Orchestron master tapes. In other words, this disc won’t sound 100% exactly like the original discs in every tiny detail.

Specifically:

Since there’s usually no way to precisely identify the exact 2-second excerpt that was originally used from each sustained note on the master tapes (some of which can be 8-10 seconds long), we’ve simply chosen 2-second excerpts that sounded good in our editing situation.

Our Saxophone disc has a little less low-end and a bit more high-end than the original. These can both be easily adjusted with EQ if you’re trying to precisely duplicate the overall tonality of the original discs.

The loop joints on our disc are very smooth and for the most part don’t pop/thud the way the originals do.

We’ve staggered the loop joints evenly across the disc (instead of placing them all at 12 o’clock), so that no two notes hit their loop joint at the same time.

Some of our discs may have very slight periodic crosstalk on some notes (mostly noticeable on higher notes), owing to miniscule variations in the center hole punching tolerance. Said crosstalk should be well within the acceptable limits that Orchestron users are accustomed to.

So, will our disc satisfy the absolute purist? Probably not, and we won’t attempt to argue otherwise. But despite the differences, to the more casual player our disc sounds very much like the original. We’re confident that you’ll love the sound and quality of this disc, but if you’re not totally satisfied, we’re happy to offer a 100% money-back guarantee. This is a labor of love for us, and we want to make sure you feel the love too!

Since the original discs came in plain white jackets, so will ours. We will be replicating the original printed paper sleeves- spelling/grammar errors and all.

Soon we will have all eight of the original Orchestron discs remastered, as well as a few brand new titles. Stay tuned!

The Remastered Vako Orchestron Disc – Saxophone is $99.99 at Shoptigan.

Based on unusual acoustic sample material and brought to life through advanced sound programming, this new library for KORE 2 and the free KORE PLAYER offers highly original instruments for music projects that would benefit from “weird and wonderful tones and textures”.

Acoustic Refractions was created in collaboration with prolific sound design artist Jeremiah Savage, who recorded an assortment of unusual acoustic samples from “everyday objects” as the starting point. The sonic raw material at the heart of this KORE SOUNDPACK comes from items such as light bulbs, blocks of ice, washing machines, spray cans, shredded paper, water, glass and stones, and even the Golden Gate Bridge.

This source material is processed through the powerful KONTAKT sample engine integrated in KORE 2, which renders the sounds into fluid, atmospheric instruments that are highly playable despite their unusual sonic origin.

Acoustic Refractions includes 100 individual KoreSounds, complete with morphable Sound Variations for added sonic variety and concise parameter assignments for immediate, intuitive sound tweaking in KORE 2 and KORE PLAYER. Full musical metadata for all presets also makes Acoustic Refractions integrate seamlessly with any individual collection of KORE SOUNDPACKS.

Acoustic Refractions is available for download purchase in the NI Online Shop for $79 / €:69.

2009 Winter NAMM Show update: Korg announced that the M3 Expanded was getting an expanded sound library.

The M3 XPanded features updated internal PCM, plus 412 MB of free sample expansion. New piano and classic keyboard samples — including three acoustic pianos, 3-way tine and reed electric pianos and four velocity-switched clavs, plus vintage tape-playback strings and flutes — have been added to the internal ROM, along with 160 new Programs and 32 new Combinations, bringing the total to 1,215 (EDS) onboard Programs and 416 Combinations available for use.

Three sample expansion libraries have been included on a USB memory stick for loading into sample RAM.

The first two collections, EX-USB-PCM01/02 (128 MB each), adapt and customize the EXs3 “Brass and Woodwinds” sample library (first developed for Korg’s OASYS music workstation) for the M3’s EDS synthesis engine, delivering natural brass and woodwind sounds.

The third library, EX-USB-PCM03 features a stereo grand piano lavishly sampled at four velocities plus ambient damper resonance to realistically deliver the richness and natural spaciousness of a top-level full concert grand.

Finally, the recently released EX-USB-PCM04, featuring the original Stereo Piano PCM and Program data from the M3 Version 1 system is now available for download, bringing the PCM total to 668 MB*, over two and a half times that of the original M3. (*Loading more than one library at a time requires the addition of the optional EXB-M256 memory expansion).

An expanded Sequencer mode adds new screens and functions, including a much-requested Piano Roll edit screen which shows event data, such as notes, velocities and control changes, in an intuitive, graphical way. Touch-drag operation can now be used to edit, delete or create note events or control events.

A Track View page shows an overview of each track’s events and provides additional intuitive touch-drag operation. Full MIDI system exclusive data editing has also been added to the Sequencer mode, allowing users to easily record, view, control and edit every aspect of the M3’s synthesis, effects and mixing structures in the everyday parameter names, rather than complex hex coding.

The KARMA function, which generates unique, interactive phrases, has been expanded to Version 2.2, with many new features, including 1,024 locations for user GEs (Generated Effects) when used with exclusive KARMA M3 software from Karma-Lab. Users are now able to switch GEs in real time while KARMA is playing, with seamless transitions.

Other updated features include 700 effect presets voiced to provide instant production-ready settings, 149 newly added drum patterns and an improved TouchView user interface, which allows users to operate knobs or sliders by touch-drag operation onscreen, plus visual metering of timbre and track levels in Combi and Sequencer modes.

The new M3 XPanded upgrade is available for free in the box with all new M3 purchases, with a USB memory stick included containing the new OS and 640 MB of PCM (USB-PCM-04 is available for download only). The complete M3 XPanded upgrade is also available for download for existing users.
