akai-rpm8-monitors2009 Summer NAMM Show: Akai Professional has introduced the  RPM8 reference production studio monitors, specifically intended for use with the company’s MPC music production workstations and production controllers.

“There is so much low-end content in music being made today,” said Adam Cohen, Director of Business Development, Akai Professional, “we felt that a studio monitor specifically designed for extended low frequency playback would appeal to the people who already use our MPCs and production controllers.”

M-Audio speakers
2007 Winter NAMM Show: M-Audio released the Studiophile AV 40 professional desktop reference monitors.

The Studiophile AV 40 monitors use the same acclaimed technology that has made M-Audio reference monitors so popular among top-shelf producers, engineers and musicians. The compact system features balanced and unbalanced connections, headphone output, additional aux input, video shielding and more—making it ideal for mobile workstations and multimedia desktop work.

“With the Studiophile AV 40, users can now have accurate monitoring wherever they happen to be,” explains Adam Castillo, marketing director for M-Audio. “Everyone from seasoned pros and novice musicians to gamers and home audio enthusiasts will appreciate the combination of proven M-Audio technology with a compact, powered design.”

The Studiophile AV 40 monitors are expected to ship in early 2007 and carry an MSRP of USD $199.95 per pair.

iPod Hi FiApple today announced iPod Hi-Fi, a high-end ($349) iPod boombox dock with remote. The Hi-Fi is portable, and can run from six D-cell batteries or wall power.

“Apple is reinventing the home stereo with the new iPod Hi-Fi, the first iPod accessory that adds true high-fidelity sound quality to the iPod,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.

At least at the Think Secret site, customers aren’t as impressed with Apple’s latest announcement:

  • “This doesn’t even hit me as an “apple design”. It looks more like a styrofoam cooler you but at your local walmart. For 350 dollars, there are some fantastic alternatives to the boombox.”
  • “This isn’t a hi-fi, it’s a powered speaker. A very expensive powered speaker. It’s right up there with the iPod Socks in the world of innovations.”
iPod Hi-Fi includes built-in handles, a removable front grille with precision-mounting clips, touch-sensitive volume control buttons, the Apple Remote, a universal power supply, and the ability to power iPod Hi-Fi from six D-cell batteries. Read more…

The Klipsch iFi system is a “plug and play” setup that fits almost anywhere and in any type of environment. This 2.1 configuration comes equipped with two unobtrusive Klipsch Reference Series RSX-3 satellites, a dedicated subwoofer, docking station and RF remote.
