Here’s the official Stanton SCS.3d DaScratch intro video from Richard Devine:

Remix magazine’s Markkus Rovito summed up the Stanton DaScratch like this:

Given the great design and excellent responsiveness of the multitouch-sensitive surface, DaScratch holds enormous potential as a controller. However, the full potential is really only unleashed when you have a decent control preset to work with. Luckily, Traktor and Serato Scratch are the two most popular DJ programs, so if you use one of those, you’re covered. If you don’t, you can still open a generic preset and set up DaScratch to do your bidding using your software’s MIDI Learn functions. DaRouter will remember your settings the next time you load up that particular generic preset.

About the Stanton DaScratch:

DaScratch™, a.k.a. the SCS.3d, is the latest innovation in the Stanton SC System control surface line. Revolutionary and compact, this controller is a necessity for any digital DJ looking for ultimate control over their software of choice. DaScratch’s compact and sleek profile makes it a space-friendly addition to any existing DJ gear set-up or can stand on its own as a complete controller solution. What makes this guy different from your average controller?

Stanton’s StanTouch™ technology allows you to use traditional DJ-style motions and gestures on a touch-pad style surface to take full control over music and software applications such as Traktor DJ Studio™, Traktor Scratch™, Ableton Live™, Serato Scratch Live™, or any other MIDI compatible software. Minimal moving parts ensure durability from gig to gig.

DJ Richard Devine goes over the features of Stanton’s DaScratch (SCS.3d) – a touch sensitive software controller.

Here are the details on Stanton’s new controller:

Stanton’s StanTouch technology allows you to use traditional DJ-style motions and gestures on a touch-pad style surface to take full control over music and software applications such as Traktor DJ Studio, Traktor Scratch, Ableton Live, Serato Scratch Live or any other MIDI compatible software. Minimal moving parts ensure durability from gig to gig.

Highlights:

The StanTouch interface can be used for scratching, scrubbing, and navigating through digital audio. The tactile buttons, triggers, and virtual faders can also control samples, pitch, effects, cue and loop points, and other mappable functions. Multiple finger touches can even prompt quick kills on EQ’s or transform effects on volume.

Magnect connection system allows multiple DaScratch units to securely snap together, creating a larger control surface with increased performance options.

DaRouter software gives DaScratch a little brain of its own, allowing customized support for a variety of applications. DaRouter runs on Mac / PC and will automatically load presets that are tailored towards the application the SCS.3d is controlling. A generic preset is also provided for mapping to any application that supports MIDI learn.

USB connection for easy plug and play connection to your software. Class compliant with Windows XP, Vista and Mac OSX to ensure that drivers are never needed. Bus powered by design to ensure that no external power or batteries need to be used.

NAMM Show Update: Stanton DJ announced the SC System, the company’s new set of digital controllers for the professional DJ.

This was one of the nicer pieces of DJ gear introduced at the Winter NAMM Show.

The Stanton SC System is comprised of the SCS.1d deck and the SCS.1m mixer; both advanced control surfaces that preserve the feel and familiar layout of more traditional equipment.

The Stanton SC System is a high-end controller solution that can be a direct replacement (or even compliment) to the high-end DJ gear and popular software options. Each component of the system (mixer and deck) can be used standalone or together, allowing for multiple configurations, with clean lines drawn between the functions of each unit. This system boasts a premium feature set including built-in FireWire connections, a high-torque motorized platter with vinyl control disc, motorized fader, rotary encoders, massive flexibility, and integration into DJ software with advanced two-way feedback.

“In creating the SC system, we took a clean approach towards not just designing a piece of equipment, but rather creating a physical palette of familiar and comfortable controls with expandability to allow the end user and software to grow as technology advances,” says Stanton’s Product Development Director Jim Mazur. “While most musical instruments have been well defined and morphed throughout time, DJ gear is still evolving and we are all still searching for the culmination of functionality and interface to allow the artist to not feel confined by how others want them to use their gear. ”

Key features of the Stanton SC System include:

High-torque adjustable motorized platter with real vinyl

Motorized pitch fader

Velocity sensitive pads

Highly tactile and complete user feedback (out of the box)

Encoder section for control of rotary controls in software

LCD “scribble strips” for two-way communication with selected DJ software and LED backlit buttons

Universal, class-compliant MIDI and Audio

The Stanton SC System is expected to ship in May 2008, and the retail value of the full system will be set at a retail value of approximately $2,499.00 (MSRP). The units will also be sold separately, with the SCS.1.d set at $1,499.00 (MSRP) and the SCS.1m at $999.00 (MSRP).

Here are the details:

SCS.1d Deck

The SCS.1d offers a tight grip over the DJ’s music through a high-torque 10″ motorized platter, transport controls, navigation keys, rotary encoders, a motorized pitch slider, and a trigger section. Unlike the SCS.1m, the SCS.1d Deck does not offer any direct audio connectivity; all audio I/O remains at the mixer or external soundcard to reduce cabling. What the SCS.1d does offer is top of the line tracking and intuitive ergonomics, accented by a real 10″ disc of vinyl for authentic feel.

Encoder with Alpha numeric feedback

The SCS.1d features 4 virtual encoders each with LED rings and an alphanumeric display. The LED rings provide visual feedback for the current position of the knob providing instant positional feedback in low light environments and when switching between multiple presets. The alphanumeric displays indicate the name of the current function mapped to the encoder. This is important as these names are updated when different presets are loaded from the preset section. All functions on the encoder can be instantly mapped to the motorized platter by using the “JOG” button below the encoder.

Control Presets for Encoders and Triggers

SCS.1d features 6 control presets for the encoder rings allowing for a total of 24 knobs to be mapped to the deck control surface alone! Presets allow for multiple functions to be mapped to a set of controls. Each preset maintains its state so the controls are never “reset”.

Motorized Pitch Slider

The pitch slider on the SCS.1d is not only 100mm long for super smooth pitch adjustment. It is also motorized so the deck can remember several virtual decks’ fader positions. The motorized pitch slider can be automatically brought to perfect sync position when working with software that is able to communicate with the interface when doing a sync function.

Velocity Sensitive Trigger Pads

The trigger pads on the SCS1.d are velocity sensitive so they not only provide button press information but also velocity strength when the trigger is pressed. In this way samples can be triggered at different volumes based upon how hard the buttons are pressed with pressure sensitive interface messages.

SCS.1m Mixer Controller

The SCS.1m is an analogy in design to a traditional 4 channel dj mixer. It features 4 channel strips equipped with Gain, Hi, Mid, Low, and Pan controls as well as up faders and a cross fader. The SCS.1m controller also has 4 encoders exactly like the SCS.1d. On the rear panel the SCS.1m has full audio connectivity for Dj software. The unit can connect to the mains via balanced connectors and has a microphone input and aux input that is phono / line switchable. Monitoring is achieved through the headphone outputs on the front panel. The SCS.1m also includes a footswitch input which allows the user to free up their hands while performing.

Studio Quality Firewire Audio Interface

The mixer acts as an audio interface for the SC System, and multiple channels of audio can be used with it. By utilizing the Firewire protocol the SCS.1m ensures low latency audio to and from the PC (1.5ms) and high sampling rates (up to 96KHz). This means that high definition audio can be used seamlessly with the unit, and that there is virtually no delay between a control movement on the surface and a response from the computer.

4 Channels of MIDI control

While the SCS.1d represents a merge of all the highest quality components and controls found on high end cd players and turntables, the SCS.1m offers the same comparison to high end mixing boards. The unit offers 4 channel strips of control so 4 virtual decks can be mixed together in real time.

Encoder Strip

The encoder strip is designed to match the similar encoder strip on the SCS.1d. In this way, there is a common user interface between performing with control presets on the mixer and the deck. The only difference between the respective encoder strips on the mixer and deck is the fact that the strips on the mixer can be used in a matrix fashion. This means that either one channel strip has 4 encoder controls, or there is one common control between the 4 encoders. For example, while running an effect on one channel, the DJ may require more control for that effect and would choose to run all 4 controls dedicated to the one channel. On the other hand, a DJ may want a more generic control that can be mapped across each channel such as pan / balance. With 4 presets per encoder knob, the SCS.1m allows for up to 12 knobs of control into the software.

Aux Input

The SCS.1m allows for an auxiliary input to be run into the computer. This input is phono / line switchable so either a CD player or turntable can be run into the PC. This input is useful for sampling in real time off of a vinyl or CD.

At the 2008 Winter NAMM Show, Stanton DJ announced the release of the C.324, the company’s newest slot loading tabletop CD player for the professional DJ.

The Stanton C.324 is designed for digital DJs who want to scratch CDs like vinyl. It features MP3 and CD audio playback with onboard file and folder browsing, onboard pattern and real-time sequencer for drum machine style performances, seven on board digital effects, and a sleek slot loading CD mechanism with LED for quick loading of CDs into the unit in low light situations.

The C.324 has added responsive trigger pads that offer real-time sample / loop sequencing. This means that trigger patterns can now be recorded in real time and looped instantaneously. Drum patterns and loops can be manually re-sequenced and then looped to bring a completely new twist to live DJ remixing. Using the C.324, sequences can be created in seconds compared to minutes using drum machines.

The C.324 can record loops and samples, with the length determined by the time setting. This new feature makes it easy to set up seamless loops. The C.324 also allowed for the creation of beat synchronized loops based off of the current song’s BPM. This means that a perfectly timed seamless loop can be set on-the-fly with one press of a button. Once a beat synchronized loop has been set, it can be trimmed or expanded in real time by beat increment. By trimming the beat, a one bar loop can be turned into a 1/2 bar loop, 1/4 note or 1/8th note. Smaller loops can be expanded in the same fashion.

Jim Mazur, Director of Product Development for Stanton DJ said, “The C.324 expands on the functionality of our popular C.314, and is a great all-around player for every type of DJ. It offers new and exciting creative tools, such as the first real time sequencer in a DJ CD player, an automatic looper, and great ergonomics so that DJs can perform more exciting and creative mixes.”

Highlights of the Stanton C.324 include:

Tabletop CD player with touch sensitive jog wheel for scratching and beat juggling

CD slot drive mechanism

MP3 playback with text display and onboard file and folder browsing

Onboard pattern and real time sequencer for the on-the-fly drum machine style performances

7 high-quality beat synchronized digital effects: Filter, Auto Filter, Echo, Phaser, Flanger, Transform, Pan

Beat synchronized sampling and looping with four trigger pads and cue memory

Auto and manual BPM control

Vinyl emulation with adjustable platter start / brake speed

Adjustable pitch (+/- 8%, 16%, 25%, 100%) with pitch blend

Key lock allows a song’s tempo to be changed without affecting the original key of the song

Reliable anti-shock playback with auto cue

Blue LCD display with visual marketing

S/PDIF digital output

Stanton has come back from an awkward breakup with Native Instruments and introduced FinalScratch OPEN, a system that “offers DJs the freedom of choice, allowing them to decide which software THEY want to use, utilizing the state of the art Stanton ScratchAmp.”

No hard feelings, there, huh?

The FinalScratch Open Scratch Amp is a state-of-the-art low latency FireWire 96k / 24 bit audio interface that is compatible for use with a variety of software applications, making it an ideal solution for programs that do not currently ship with a sound card, such as MixVibes, Deckadance, Ableton Live, Traktor DJ Studio, PCDJ, and the like, and providing the connections needed from turntables, cd players, and microphones.

The Scratch Amp also provides the output connections to the DJ mixer and headphones for sending audio out of the computer. In addition to this, Midi is implemented on the Scratch Amp so users can now connect external control surfaces and audio devices to their DJ software application. Because the Scratch Amp is an ASIO / WDM device on Windows and is a class compliant CoreAudio device on the MacOS, it can work with virtually every audio application on the planet.

The Stanton Scratch Amp is a powerful sound card tailored towards the inputs and outputs that a performing DJ would require when using software. Traditional non pro-audio applications will work with the WDM driver and CoreAudio compliancy, allowing programs such as iTunes, Windows Media Player, WinAmp, PowerDVD and games to utilize the Scratch Amp. The Asio and CoreAudio compatibility ensure that pro-audio applications such as Cubase, Project 5, Ableton Live, FL Studio, Reason and others will run flawlessly with a sound card. With FinalScratch OPEN, Stanton is now shipping the world-class Stanton ScratchAmp as a standalone piece at an incredible value, and working with software developers to offer DJs the opportunity to choose the option that suits them best.

Stanton has now opened the Final Scratch format, allowing all software companies big and small to take advantage of time code support. The company believes that by providing this technology free of charge to developers, as well as linking its use with the ScratchAmp, FinalScratch users will now enjoy an unbelievable new realm of possibility. FinalScratch OPEN now has the potential to become a cross software standard for vinyl control.

Over the coming year Stanton plans to unfold a digital product strategy that gives DJs the tools needed to reach unmatched performance levels, allowing them to take full advantage of the digital DJ technology that the company pioneered with FinalScratch. The first step in this strategy is FinalScratch OPEN, and the good news for existing FS DJs is that they do not have to make an additional hardware purchase…they already own the acclaimed Stanton ScratchAmp. FinalScratch OPEN also gives FinalScratch DJs the ability to purchase an additional ScratchAmp at a reduced cost to use for back-up or club installation. The options have now been expanded, and as Stanton continues to move forward with developers, users will begin to experience a new level of FinalScratch potential that was never before possible.

Stanton is shipping the C.504 and C.503, two new rack-mountable dual CD players for DJs.

The C.504 is Stanton’s flagship dual CD player. It consists of a two-space CD player and a compact 3U rackmount controller with large jogwheels that provide turntable-style control. A new anti-shock buffer on the C.504 helps eliminate CD “skips”.

The C.504 plays back both standard CDs and MP3 encoded discs (on CD-R or CD-RW format), with the ability to pitch bend and change tempo while using effects. The CD player’s features includes seamless looping, reverse playback, and 10 seconds of sampling per deck. Its pitch control has an adjustable range, and independent pitch and tempo control via Key Lock and Key Shift functions is included as well. Three hot start/cue points are offered for quick cueing and instant playback, while synchronizable effects like filter, flange and delay help pro DJs be at their creative best. More features of the C.504 include automatic BPM detection with Tap key, a handy auto-cue function, fader start and continuous/relay play, and a S/PDIF digital output.

The new C.503 is a dual CD player designed for mobile and club DJs. It presents a more affordable solution for DJs who still require features like scratching, seamless looping, hot cue points, Key Lock (Master Tempo) and anti-shock memory. The C.503 offers an even smaller controller area than the C.504 (only two rackspaces) for compact installations. The C.503 provides anti-shock memory, independent pitch/tempo control, effects, and a digital output, making both the C.504 and C.503 ideal for serious DJ applications.
