Steinberg has introduced the CI2 Advanced Integration USB Studio, which combines an audio interface and control surface with Cubase AI 5 for a complete production solution.

CI2 costs €229.00/£191.00 and will ship to Steinberg resellers worldwide from the end of September 2009.

Description:

CI2 features many workflow features designed to make the entire hardware and software system very easy to use. The AI Knob controller becomes a sound browser with a single push, and is integrated into browser windows in Cubase to find the right instrument sound or loop more quickly by scrolling through and (de)selecting entries in the sound browser windows. Interactive Recording mode uses the optionally available footswitch for hands-free recording, ideal for guitarists and vocalists recording their own performances. The Project Assistant is a new Cubase AI 5 feature that offers a large range of templates for many production tasks and genres, allowing for setup of new projects in seconds. Highlighting ease-of-use and intuitiveness as one of the major design goals for CI2, Schreiber comments: “These features have one purpose: to simplify recording and production, reflecting the uncompromising focus on supporting newcomers to digital music production.”

The included Cubase AI 5 is a streamlined version of Steinberg’s highly successful Cubase 5, with audio technology found in countless professional production environments worldwide. Cubase AI 5 offers up to 48 audio tracks, 64 MIDI tracks, a range of audio and MIDI plug-ins including a new version of the AmpSimulator plug-in for guitarists, virtual instruments, editing features, comprehensive automation and much more. As with all Cubase and Steinberg hardware products, CI2 supports both Windows and Mac OS X.

Steinberg today announced a new version of its Nuendo audio production environment. Nuendo 4 offers a range of new features and technologies dedicated to mixers, engineers and editors in post production, studio recording and live recording.

“Because Nuendo 4 caters directly to audio post and studio production, Steinberg is now in the unique position of being able to offer dedicated products for four different target groups: Nuendo for the post and pro audio community, Cubase for musicians, composers and producers, WaveLab for audio editors and mastering engineers, and Sequel for entry-level music creation enthusiasts,” comments Steinberg’s General Manager Andreas Stelling.

Among the new functionality in Nuendo 4 is a state-of-the-art new automation system. Preview mode, Fill commands, Punch Logs, Virgin Territories and the unique new Touch Collect Assistant are only some of the new functions which unite the best functionality found on traditional hardware mixing consoles with the flexibility inherent in Nuendo 4 as a modern DAW environment.

The new MediaBay file management system for audio, video and other media files can replace many external FX database solutions. MediaBay browses, archives, retrieves and searches media files across any connected drive. Utilizing intelligent database technology, user-definable tags and other features MediaBay allows instant pulling up and filtering of search results, smart file management and more.

Nuendo 4 sees a vastly upgraded set of 38 new first-class surround- and sidechaining-capable VST3 audio effect plug-ins that cover dynamics, spatial FX and filtering for almost any situation. Standard on each channel is a brand new VST3 Channel EQ, with an audio quality that can replace many expensive additional 3rd party EQ plug-ins. Drag & drop and copy/paste for plug-ins make using plug-ins in Nuendo 4 even faster and more efficient.

Nuendo 4 offers a range of features designed specifically to accelerate and enhance workflows in audio post production. Advanced post pro editing commands allow even faster editing workflows, including many new options to move, place and trim audio faster and with outstanding precision to save valuable time. The flexible Post Filter is engineered specifically for audio post, and features special options to remove unwanted noises form audio material, for example from location recording.

Flexible new recording and routing options offer creative new ways to route and manipulate audio, with any track now able to record audio from any summing object such as groups or FX returns. Common recording configurations such as stems and print master recording are now extremely easy to setup, obviating the need to route audio outside the system for recording on external recorders.

Nuendo Expansion Kit: Cubase Music Tools for Nuendo 4

Together with the launch of Nuendo 4, Steinberg also introduces an additional product: Nuendo Expansion Kit: Cubase Music Tools for Nuendo 4 (NEK). This add-on module to Nuendo 4 contains optional music compositional functionality, including full Cubase scoring and notation, the Cubase MIDI Drum Editor, four integrated VST instruments as well as support for the MusicXML standard.

Nuendo 4 is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista and both Intel and PPC-based Macintosh computers running Mac OS10.4.

Price and availability

Steinberg have announced that Groove Agent 3 is now shipping. Groove Agent 3 provides new virtual drummer modules, drum kits and a range of other features .

“Groove Agent 3 puts musically complex and ultra-realistic drum tracks just a few clicks away,” said Helge Vogt, Steinberg’s Product Manager for VST Instruments. “The simplicity of the user interface conceals the technical complexity behind the new features, making Groove Agent 3 a shining example of advanced technology that’s designed for pure fun, for the creative moment and for realizing a dream come true for many musicians – their very own studio drummer that plays a huge number of styles and always does what he’s told.”

New Groove Agent 3 features include:

Special Agent and Percussion Agent: Adding to the Classic Groove Agent of previous versions, the two new modules offer ultra-realistic modelling of a real studio drummer as well as a range of new percussive instruments in a vast range of styles

Dual Mode: Any two of the three modules can be combined in a virtual jam session for more dynamics and variability

New acoustic kits with an additional assortment of digital drum machines and percussion

42 all-new drum styles: over 120 styles total plus hundreds of percussion performances, including the more unusual time signatures

Drum Sample Import: Groove Agent 3 can now utilize almost any drum sound for its grooves, beats and fills, with separate samples for dry and ambience for a quick, easy way of creating a virtual drum kit miked up in its own room

Alternating Hits: alternates samples to avoid repetition of sounds, ensuring lively, realistic drum rolls and paradiddles

Auto Fill: intelligently generates fills to help produce dynamic drum backing tracks for improvisation on other instruments, making Groove Agent 3 ideal for use as a rehearsal and jamming tool

A new FX section: a new EQ and compressor, with new presets ready for each drum component as well as each kit.

Pricing and Availability:

Groove Agent 3 is priced at €239.00*. Groove Agent 1 and 2 customers can upgrade to the new version for €129.00* and €89.00* respectively.

Steinberg has announced an update to the Nuendo EuCon adapter module to version 3.2.2. The new version adds full MIDI functionality as well as numerous other enhancements.

Version 3.2.2 of the Nuendo EuCon adapter adds control over MIDI tracks and channels including MIDI plug-in insert effects, as well as access to all elements of corresponding VST Instrument channels. Editing MIDI parts in the Project Window is now just as seamless as editing audio parts. MIDI notes can even be edited with help of all the many soft keys, smart switches and up to two jog dials on the Euphonix MC.

On top of MIDI support, the latest version includes many workflow enhancements. A set of additional preferences allows better organization in projects containing many tracks and the transport behaviour can now be adapted to suit user preference. The display of key Nuendo software parameters on the Euphonix hardware has been enhanced to allow even faster recording, editing and mixing with Nuendo on MC, System 5 MC or System 5 Hybrids.

“As one of the leaders in the development of MIDI production tools, this update was a logical step for Steinberg,” says Lars Baumann, Steinberg’s Senior Product Manager for Nuendo. “With MIDI technology in wide use, this update is a valuable extension to the EuCon adapter of the Nuendo Media Production System, which has proven to be a top-flight solution for recording, surround and post.” he continues.

Euphonix VP Marketing, Andrew Wild comments: “Nuendo operation with our consoles and controllers via the innovative EuCon protocol has been very popular with our clients, who are working on feature films, TV shows and music projects. This is a welcome update, especially the new MIDI implementation, as this brings the full power of the System 5 channel strips, with 8 knobs and TFT displays, to the Nuendo MIDI and instrument tracks. The integration of Nuendo with the MC, System 5-MC and the System 5 range of consoles is now at the point where the hardware and software work as one – it’s a very impressive recording, editing and mixing environment.”
