NAMM Update: TC Electronic announced Nova System, a new floor-based all-in-one effects solution that combines analog distortion and overdrive with the advantages of digital control.

What makes Nova System interesting is an innovative drive and distortion circuit that offers true analog sound under preset and expression control. While the drive circuit is 100% analog and physically separated from the digital effects, its controls are digital. This way the drive effects can be tweaked, stored and recalled in exactly the same way as any of the digital effects, and the amount of distortion can be controlled in real time by hooking up an expression pedal.

Nova System houses six high quality effects blocks taken straight from G-System. It features compression, EQ, Noise Gate, Modulation, Pitch, Delay and Reverb, all programmable and storable in 60 user presets. The 30 factory presets take advantage of the wide range of versatile effects combinations and are designed to get the guitar player started right out of the box.

The Nova System overdrive emulates the classic overdrive originally only found in tube amps. The range goes from slightly warm and subtle overdrive to high gain for screaming leads, but retains excellent chord clarity even with complex voicing. The Nova System distortion is fat and aggressive and allows for full and massive chords and fluent compressed leads. The tonal character is raw, crunchy and very tube-like. Using just the guitar volume will allow for anything from semi-clean chords to intense leads.

Completing the feature list, the Hi-Z and balanced input plus balanced stereo outputs, and the two footswitch layouts – preset and pedal – with an option for adding a G-Switch for further control, make Nova System the obvious floor-based solution for the serious guitar player.

Nova System ships in Spring 2008 at a suggested retail price of EUR 699..

TC Electronic is revisiting its own legacy by reintroducing their Classic Pedal Series from the 1970s. The series consists of reissues of three sought-after TC Electronic effects:

the TC XII Phaser

the Booster+Distortion; and

the Sustain+Parametric Equalizer

The TC XII Phaser is a reproduction true to the sought after sound of the original. It is a clean-sounding and versatile phaser, featuring lots of tweaking possibilities with low-frequency oscillation speed controls, width and function controls and a 4-8-12 kHz filter selector, just like the original. The TC XII Phaser can be used in numerous ways – from clean funky chords or overdriven riffs to heavily saturated leads.

The Booster+Distortion is both a signal booster and a distortion pedal that recreates the classic sound of the original in every nuance. It features the original Bass- and Treble EQ, as well as output level and distortion level knobs. In addition to that, the Classic reissue features a built-in Noise Gate control, enabling you to control your distortion. The Booster+Distortion can be used as an “always on” boost pedal to increase the signal of the guitar, making the tubes work harder and thus generating more overdrive. Or it can be used as a boost pedal used to occasionally highlight a specific solo, lick or passage.

The Sustain+Parametric Equalizer is a studio quality compressor in pedal format. Like the original it features full controls for Frequency, Sustain and Function. A modern touch is found in the highly effective parametric EQ, making it suitable for anything from subtle compression to extreme sustaining effects. The Sustain+Parametric Equalizer can either be used to simply increase and decrease the output signal when the signal falls above or below a certain level. Extreme compression can also be used as an effect used for funk or country playing giving the sound a special percussive “thud”. Last but not least compression will increase sustain of the notes played because the output volume will gradually be increased as the input volume guitar drops.

TC Electronic Classic Pedals will ship late January 2007 at EUR 245 excl. VAT and GBP 165 excl. VAT respectively.

TC Electronic has announced that UnWrap, the world’s most widely used high-resolution mastering and up-conversion algorithm for music and post production, is now shipping.

Originally developed for TC Electronic’s flagship System 6000 high definition processor, UnWrap facilitates smooth and fast stereo to 5.1 up-conversions when there is no time to do a conventional 5.1 mix or multitrack source material is non-existent. The UnWrap plug-in is available for PowerCore VST at EUR 950 retail ex. VAT and for Pro Tools|HD Accel at EUR 1250 retail ex. VAT. The Mac version of UnWrap is optimized for both PowerPC and IntelMac based systems.

UnWrap offers an array of parameters to convert stereo and LtRt sources to 5.1, while remaining faithful to the original mix’s width, timbre, spaciousness and other significant factors. Because of this approach the 5.1 output can be subsequently down- mixed to stereo again with no sonic penalties.

UnWrap includes customized up-conversion presets for film production and music mastering. The default presets include the capability to widen or narrow the image, specify envelopment, control the amount of center and LFE channels to be used, and several other aspects for dealing well with a wide variety of sources.

UnWrap uses 48 bit processing, has sample precision aligned outputs, and is capable of running at any sample rate between 44.1 and 96 kHz.

Musikmesse Frankfurt: TC Electronic has introduced G-System, a floor-based unit that offers both studio-quality guitar effects and advanced loop/routing facilities for external pedals and preamps.

With a unique combination of 2 DSP sections, analog loops, amp switching, and 9VDC power outputs for external pedals, G-System is aimed at the experienced guitar player looking to complete his setup with the ultimate in quality, integration and flexibility. G-System features 8 effect blocks divided into a pre effects section with Filter and Compression, and a post effects section with Noise Gate, Modulation, Pitch, Delay, Reverb, and EQ. Also included are Chromatic Tuner, Tap Tempo and Boost function. G-System’s heavy duty 10 mm aluminium face plate and 18 giant chrome switches ensure unsurpassed mechanical stability, and protection against dust or liquid. G-System is expected to ship in June 2005 at EUR 1395 retail ex. VAT.

Combining state-of-the-art guitar effects with unique loop switching in a revolutionary design, G-System is the new flagship guitar processor from TC Electronic. The philosophy behind the G-System is that the internal effects can be blended with one or several external effects at the flick of a footswitch. G-System allows for rack or floor based set-ups, flexible routing of external effects, custom-made footswitch layout, and up to 8 effects simultaneously. The 4 analog loops enable “true bypass” of any pedal, thus preventing disengaged pedals from eating into the guitar tone. The 5th loop is custom designed for pre-amp inserting, and the 4 relay switches give analog control of preamps and amps. Also included are 2 x 2 expression pedal inputs. All functions of the G-System are directly accessible via the 18 chrome footswitches, 6 of which serve as integrated encoders.

The new VPD1 Vintage Pre Drive Pedal from TC Electronic was specifically designed to complement the G-System, featuring classic tube amp dynamics and a special boost section for additional overdrive.

Commenting on the new flagship guitar product from TC Electronic, Uffe Kjems Hansen, VP of Product Management, stated: “The G-System is an all-in-one solution that allows the quality-conscious guitar player to combine his favorite stompboxes and preamps with top-notch effect processing from TC Electronic. We believe in the freedom of choice, when it comes to distortion and expression pedals, and have therefore decided to put our focus on flexible loop-switching and superior effects based on TC’s widely acclaimed algorithms. We venture to say that our new product will initiate a paradigm shift in the world of guitar processing.”

Musikmesse Frankfurt: TC Electronic introduced the VPD1, an all-analog Vintage Pre Drive pedal capable of producing vintage tube style guitar tones.

Based on TC’s characteristic guitar pedal design, VPD1 features a drive section and an additional boost section with a resonance filter that allows for emphasizing treble or mid frequencies when the boost is activated. VPD1 differs from a traditional drive pedal by covering the full range guitar signal, and it is perfect for reproducing those warm driven vintage tones that you can only get from a tube amp with the master volume turned all the way up. VPD1 is expected to ship in June 2005 at EUR 275 retail ex. VAT.

The basic drive section delivers a distinguished vintage overdrive allowing every characteristic of your instrument to shine through. When you kick in the boost section, you get a saturated lead sound with plenty of gain and sustain. VPD1 features “Drive”, “Level”, “Tone” and “Boost” knobs as well as individual “On” and “Boost” footswitches. Also included are the Top and Mid boost emphasis filters.

TC Electronic has introduced PowerCore Compact, a lightweight and portable hardware platform with FireWire ports for easy laptop connection.

Twelve plug-ins provide professional processing tools for mixing,
mastering and music production, and the new PowerCore device is
expandable via optional plug-ins from TC Electronic, Sony Oxford,
Access Music and others.

With the included and optional plug-ins, PowerCore Compact can be
optimized for a variety of applications such as mastering, vocal
processing and sound design. On top of the nine standard included
plug-ins for the PowerCore platform – two types of reverb, two types of
compressors/limiters, a chorus/delay, a parametric EQ, a synthesizer, a
complete voice channel and a guitar amp simulator – PowerCore Compact
comes with the brand new Character?„? plug-in from Noveltech, the dual
?€œanalog?€ filter bank Filtroid, and Master X3, the virtual
incarnation of the TC Electronic Finalizer?„?.?€

PowerCore Compact supports any VST or Audio Unit based digital
audio workstation. It moves professional signal processing beyond the
walls of the studio, and has the capability to run multiple reverbs,
virtual Finalizers and other high-end effects simultaneously. The
PowerCore Compact comes with a 266 MHz PowerPC and two 150 MHz Motorola
DSPs each with 512 Kb Ram, and it connects instantly to computers via
FireWire connectors. Multiple PowerCore Compacts can be combined with
each other or with several PowerCore FireWires and/or PowerCore
Elements for even more power.

Thomas Valter, Product Manager at TC Electronic explains: ?€œThere
is no doubt that portability and access to high-quality processing are
key issues for users of professional music and film editing
applications. With the PowerCore Compact, you get both.?€

TC Electronic is now shipping the Dynamic EQ, a new mixing and mastering plug-in exclusive to the PowerCore platform.

Dynamic EQ is a new tool for any mixing or mastering situation. This virtual processor eliminates the shortcomings of static EQ by providing a dynamically applied equalization.

The Dynamic EQ plug-in offers up to four definable bands working either in static or dynamic mode, or in a mixture of both. Each of the bands can be configured as a parametric EQ or as a high or low shelving filter. The sidechain bands can be unlinked from the processing bands, so the high frequency content of a mix can control the low-end and vice versa. The pristine processing of this plug-in is all in 48-bit double precision, and may even be used in a phase linear mode, that is generous with transparent results.

Dynamic EQ represents a new generation of mastering tools for the PowerCore platform and this virtual processor eliminates the shortcomings of static EQ by providing a marriage between dynamics processing and EQ.

Features:

Phase linear

48-Bit double precision processing

Up to 4 bands

Independent sidechain and processing frequencies

Inverse mode (processing underneath threshold)

Processing can be static or dynamic
