Thomas Dolby Now Professor Dolby At Johns Hopkins University

Johns Hopkins University has announced that synthpop pioneer Thomas Dolby is joining their faculty as the first ‘Homewood Professor of the Arts’.

At Johns Hopkins, starting in the fall, he will be teaching ‘Sound on Film’, a collaboration between Homewood’s Film and Media Studies program and Peabody’s Recording Arts and Sciences program. In the programe, students create soundtracks for films.

Dolby will also be the artistic director of the Program in Sound on Film at Station North, helping to lead the university’s efforts in Baltimore’s arts and entertainment district. Continue reading

Moogfest 2012 Lineup Features Orbital, Squarepusher, Thomas Dolby & Others

MoogfestOrganizers have announced the line up Moogfest 2012, a festival of ‘electronic and visionary music’ that celebrates the spirit of Bob Moog.

Moogfest 2012 is scheduled for Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27, 2012 in Asheville, NC.

The 2012 Moogfest lineup includes Primus 3D, a stop on the 3D-enhanced live musical tour, Swedish electro-pop artists Miike Snow,Santigold, Orbital, Richie Hawtin, Squarepusher, Carl Craig and Pantha du Prince.

Other performers confirmed include Thomas Dolby, Explosions In The Sky, Divine Fits, Four Tet, the Magnetic Fields, Prefuse 73 with Teebs, Actress, Disclosure, Juila Holter and Blondes.

Artists will perform at venues throughout downtown Asheville.

Weekend passes, daily GA tickets and VIP packages for Moogfest 2012 will go on sale Friday, August 10 AT Noon EST at the Moogfest site.

Sweetwater Gearfest 2012 Scheduled For June 22-23

Sweetwater has announced GearFest ‘12, scheduled for Friday, June 22th and Saturday, June 23th in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The event, which they describe as “part trade show, part entertainment event, part flea market, and part musicians’ toyland” is free and open to the public.

This year’s event is bigger than ever, with two days of workshops and seminars, scores of manufacturer exhibits and musical performances. More than 200 manufacturers of musical instruments, music technology, and audio equipment will be on hand.
