Acon Digital Media Announces Acoustica Premium 4 With Support for Multichannel AudioAcon Digital Media has announced Acoustica Premium 4. The software for professional audio editing and mastering extends the standard version of the full-featured audio editor Acoustica with support for multichannel audio formats such as 5.1 and 7.1 surround. Additionally, the integrated CD burner in Acoustica Premium 4 provides control over the details of audio CD productions, such as pause lengths, index markers and CD-TEXT fields.

The processing tools from the following Acon Digital Media plug-in suites are integrated in Acoustica Premium 4, providing a simplified workflow and a large range of professional quality tools for mastering and sound design:

  • Studio Clean (VST and DirectX) – Audio restoration tools, including noise reduction, click and crackle reduction, restoration of clipped audio recordings and high frequency harmonic synthesis (gives new life to dull sounding recordings).
  • Studio Time (DirectX) – Professional quality time stretching and pitch shifting (transposition of key).
  • Studio Necessities (VST and DirectX) – Mastering and sound design tools, including equalizer, dynamic processing, limiter, reverb, chorus, flanger, phaser and multi-tap delay.

digidesign x-formDigidesign is now shipping X-Form, a new high-quality AudioSuite plug-in for time compression/expansion and pitch-shifting.

According to Digidesign, X-Form delivers unparalleled time stretching and formant-correct pitch shifting to Pro Tools and Avid DNA systems to produce natural-sounding results—even at the most extreme settings—making it ideal for music production, sound design, post production, or any other application that requires time-stretch and pitch-shift processing .

“The secret to X-Form’s natural-sounding, polyphonic, time-stretching algorithm is frequency domain processing, a technology proven more effective than the ‘frame overlap’ algorithms used in most time-stretching products,” reveals Digidesign Senior Product Manager Bobby Lombardi. He adds that the goal is to “provide Pro Tools users with the highest quality time-stretching and pitch-shifting processing available in the market.”

X-Form features minimal controls to simplify the workflow, yet delivers stunning sound quality whether audio is processed from 1/8 to eight times its original length, or shifted up or down three octaves. Simply choose from two algorithms—Polyphonic or Monophonic—and let X-Form do the rest.

The Polyphonic algorithm is ideal for use on complex audio files, such as chords or an entire stereo mix. This algorithm is truly “best in breed,” and when used with the Transient Sensitivity control, allows you to compress or stretch drum loops and other percussive material without losing crucial attack transients. When working with solo instruments or vocals, simply choose the Monophonic algorithm. Each algorithm was designed to provide exceptional results capable of preserving proper stereo imaging, attack transients, and timing accuracy—even at exaggerated settings.

X-Form is available now via authorized Digidesign dealers and through the online DigiStore for $595 US MSRP.

More information is available at the Digidesign site.

Acon Studio TimeAcon Digital Media has released Studio Time, a collection of plug-ins for time scale and pitch modifications that integrate with software supporting DirectX plug-ins. It consists of the following plug-ins:

  • StudioTime, a time scale modification (time stretching) plug-in
  • StudioPitch, a pitch modification plug-in that allows pitch shifts with optional tempo and timbre preservation

Both plug-ins are based on Acon Digital Media’s time scale modification technology. The algorithm is not limited to one special type of audio material like many other existing algorithms and works well for both rhythmical and tonal audio material as well as for complete mixes, according to the company.

The plug-ins support multi-channel audio up to eight channels, including 5.1 and 7.1 surround formats. Both PCM formats (up to 32 bit resolution) and floating point (IEEE 32 bit) formats are supported.

Price and Availability

Studio Time is available for $119.00 (USD) via electronic software delivery. A demonstration version and audio examples are available online.

Ambient Music must be able to accomodate many levels of listening attention without enforcing one in particular; it must be as ignorable as it is interesting. — Brian Eno
