Big use of the Cs80 brass sound from the ESQ1 , hope you like it! My own composition, has a theme running through it, very scattered but hopefully his style with my awful piano skills lol

Sunday Synth Jam: The main theme from Blade Runner was the inspiration for this atmospheric synth jam on the analog vintage Oberheim OBXa synth.

The OBXa was played in split mode. Live recorded with Sonar 8; EFX : Roland DEP-5.

Thanks to a certain youtuber (cheers Phil) who sent me the album at the beginning of the summer, It just grows on you, the unique unworldly atmospherics of organ and percussion.

Chariots Of Sagan – Sagan

Sunday Synth Jam: This is Sagan’s cover of Vangelis’ Chariots Of Fire, which was included as an Easter Egg on the DVD of the 2004 release, Unseen Forces.

Sagan was bLevin bLectum, Wobbly, Ryan Junell and J Lesser.

The audio program of “Unseen Forces” will be available on iTunes, Amazon and other online music sites soon enough while the the movie will be released as vignettes on YouTube.

You guys seemed to like my other BR video so thought I would share this. Far as i am concerned I should have called it “Demolition path” for what I have done to this beautiful Vangelis piece! It was quite difficult , way beyond my ability, but enjoyable.

ESQ 1 comes in here again as a Yamaha CP-80 electric piano, did quite a good job for the chords at the beginning. A lot of this is nonsense, but fun all the same:)

In this video, like Bladerunner Atmosphere Part 1, mik300z really channels Vangelis’ sound palette. Check out his other Vangelis covers on YouTube.

Here it is – the Vangelis Blade Runner cover that will make you weep.

This is the first time I’ve seen someone really nail the lushness and quirkiness of Vangelis’ soundtrack for Blade Runner. It’s not an exact sonic match, but it’s extremely close, it’s live, it sounds great and and it’s a very musical performance, too.

The Stars of this video are the ESQ 1 for the Cs80 brass leads and the Juno 6 for it’s authentic sounding electronic beeps. The bells and percussion from the Korg x5 and Juno G. Microkorg on strings.

Really enjoyed this and amazing how a few affordable synths can re-create the unique bladerunner sound.

Sunday Synth Jam: This synth jam, Synth Blues Improv with Alesis Micron, is “is a blues jam obviously inspired by Vangelis Blade Runner, but it isn’t a cover. It is to show the Micron’s amazing capabilities.”

Nice, but watch out for the abrupt ending…..

The sounds are custom, and I’m especially proud of the brass patch.

In a while I’ll start doing some more rythmic pieces like jarre and such, for now I just wanted to master this synth, so here is a relatively simple improv. Enjoy!

The electronic drums on this cover don’t pack enough wallop for my taste, but this cover made me realize how horrifically bad the New American Orchestra’s Orchestral Adaptation Of Music Composed For The Motion Picture By Vangelis really is.

This is a quick audio demo of using a Korg DW-8000 to create Vangelis‘ signature Yamaha CS-80 sound.

I tried to do very famous Yamaha CS-80 sound on my DW-8000. I used aftertouch to LFO and filter modulation.

The Yamaha CS-80 is considered by many to be one of the greatest analog synthesizers ever created.

The CS-80 is a polyphonic analog synthesizer released in 1977, and discontinued in 1980. It featured true 8-voice polyphony (with two independent synthesizer layers per voice), as well as a primitive (sound) settings memory based on a bank of micropotentiometers).

Just as important, though, are the CS80’s expression features, such as a splittable keyboard that was both velocity-sensitive (like a piano’s) and pressure-sensitive (”after-touch”). Unlike most modern keyboards, though, the aftertouch could be applied to individual voices rather than in common.

A ribbon controller also allowed for polyphonic pitch-bends and glissandos. This can be heard on the Blade Runner soundtrack by Vangelis, which is full of CS-80 goodness.

On the negative side for the Yamaha CS80, it’s one of the heaviest synthesizers ever made – weighing in at over 200lb (91kb). The CS80 is also known for its unstable tuning and difficulty in servicing.

Notable players include Vangelis, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Kate Bush, Toto and Peter Gabriel.

This Korg MicroKorg demo looks at making your MicroKorg sound like a classic Roland VP-330, as heard on many a Vangelis track.

It’s a pretty good approximation, don’t you think? Not bad for a cheap synth!

I’ve been asked by a few people to share the parameters on this Roland vp-330 like strings patch, so here it is.

After inputting these settings exactly you’ll have this lovely warm vintage string sound as is heard in the little track I made for the video (inspired by Vangelis’ Bounty soundtrack).

I have about 6 variations of it, if you use the phaser on mod fx instead of ensemble it gives a really nice Jarre-like sound too….enjoy!

I’m a Blade Runner freak, so, this Blade Runner Synth Jam caught my eye:

The opening titles from ‘Blade Runner’ by Vangelis on a microKORG and an ARP Axxe.

I can’t make an Axxe sound like a CS-80, of course… ‘but then again, who does?’

It’s nice to see a fairly reasonable cover done on relatively cheap gear – but nothing sounds like a Yamaha CS-80!
