Vienna Symphonic Library Adds Horizon Sample Libraries

Thursday, October 28, 2004

Vienna Symphonic LibraryThe Vienna Symphonic Library has added more Horizon Series titles to its list of collections in Steinberg HALion and Native Instruments Kontakt format, including  Opus 1, Chamber Strings, Solo Strings, Epic Horns, Woodwind Ensembles and French Oboe.

The libraries come with Vienna's unique Performance Tool for HALion and Kontakt, currently on the PC only. November 2004 will see the release of the Performance Tool for HALion and Kontakt on Mac OS X as well as the remaining libraries, Saxophones I, Vienna Concert Guitar, and Overdrive in the new formats.

Each of the Horizon Series libraries are currently configured for Tascam's GigaStudio (PC) and Apple/Emagic's EXS24 mk II (Mac).

The introduction of the new formats is accompanied by an introductory offer: Through November 15th, users can order the String/Orchestra Bundle (Opus 1, Chamber Strings, Solo Strings) and the Winds Bundle (Epic Horns, Woodwind Ensembles, French Oboe) at a 15% discount. This offer applies to all formats, Giga, EXS, HALion, and Kontakt. The following four libraries have been available in HALion and Kontakt formats since July 2004. Since they don't utilize the Performance Tool they can already be used on both PC and Mac:

  • Glass & Stones
  • Vienna Harps
  • FX Percussion
  • Mallets

All of the Horizon Series products include the Giga and EXS24 format on the install DVDs. HALion and Kontakt formatted programs and Performance Tools can be downloaded after the user registers his or her products on the Vienna website.

The Horizon Series is a comprehensive collection of instrumental libraries that focus on specific instruments or instrument groups. Drawing on the team's experience in producing the Vienna Symphonic Library, each edition gives heightened attention to detail and realism.

Some of the libraries include all-new instruments that serve as ideal complements to the Symphonic Editions, like the French Oboe or Glass & Stones. Others are compilations taken from the Pro Edition, customized for specific applications, like FX Percussion or Mallets. But each edition is a powerful library that stands on its own with respect to authenticity and usability.

The series offers both traditional and non-traditional instruments, breaking new ground with products like Overdrive (Total Distortion Guitar), Saxophones I, and more to come. The most prominent Horizon Series collection is Opus 1, a powerful 25 GB introduction to the universe of the Vienna Symphonic Library. Featuring essential articulations of the entire orchestra, it includes the critically acclaimed Legato Performances, providing fluid expression at your fingertips

The Horizon Series combines Vienna's Silent Stage recordings with the authenticity of the unique Performance Tool at affordable prices.

The Vienna Symphonic Library

The Vienna Symphonic Library is a sample library developer based in Vienna, Austria. The complete range of the modern symphony orchestra has been recorded in a specially constructed recording stage designed expressly for the rigorous demands of orchestral sampling. Numerous instruments and rarities were recorded for the first time ever for a sample library. Played by top musicians from Vienna's renowned orchestras, recorded in 96 kHz/24 bit and refined by over 30 editing engineers, the various editions of the Vienna Symphonic Library represent the pinnacle in virtual orchestral music production. The Performance Tool, developed and used exclusively by the Vienna Symphonic Library, provides unparalleled levels of expression, authenticity, and ease of use.

Detailed information about the Vienna Symphonic Library Horizon Series, the First and Pro Edition can be found at http://www.vsl.co. The website offers audio demos, an interactive instrument encyclopedia, projects being realized with the Vienna Symphonic Library, an active user forum, and a user area, where registered users can download the Performance Tool and other resources.
