Low-Budget Monome Questions

Hi,

I am thinking about getting on of the Monomes but I'm curious about it's efficiency without any commercial software. Does it need Ableton or something like that to record comfortably? Is the software provided through company's webpage enough to sample and record?

If budget is your main concern, why not consider something like the LaunchPad? It can be used as a monome.

But can I easily use LaunchPad as a step sequencer with Ableton without Max for Live?

I am looking for a affordable option for step sequencing and running samples.

You'll have to have some app to use it with.

Seems I have to rephrase my question.

I have my microKorg which is for synths and arpeggios. Now I'm looking for something more like Electribe, where I can change tones and steps in real time. Not so difficult stuff, more like Gorillaz's Plastic Beach with simple bass and some drums. Not necessarily going with launchpad, but affordable please. But I would not like to be forced to use only preinstalled samples. And I need to record my work on my computer.

Any suggestions?
