Most people don't know this, but Amazon offers free mp3 downloads of both established and unsigned musicians.
You can check out digital music downloads from a large variety of categories, including alternative, dance & dj (electronica), & new age. Search for your favorite artists - there are tracks from Brian Eno, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Thievery Corporation, and St Germain. The site takes user ratings and uses these to rank the downloads in each category. The customer reviews is one of the strongpoints - you can read and leave reviews just like other areas of Amazon.
There is a lot of good free music to download, but it would be nice if Amazon had streaming radio of the different categories, too. As it is now, there's not an easy way to listen through a large number of songs.
Musicians can join Amazon's Digital Music Network and put their MP3's in front of millions of Amazon customers. It's free, and you retain the right to do anything you like with your music.
