The Beat Kangz Beat Thang

The Beat Kangz overview of their new beat box/workstation, the Beat Thang.

This may be the best presentation out of the 2009 NAMM Show.

Best quote: “SD cards. What? How many of them? What? I think there’s two of them. What? 16. What? Gigabytes per card.”

Let me know what you think of the Beat Kangz Beat Thang in the comments!

  1. Really hope this is real and not bogus- ships on time, no vaporware, no hype, solid production and delivers as stated. From all the hokey promos and noise surrounding the release, if this turns out to be the real deal, it will be sick. Let’s hope it produces as advertised.

  2. OK, nice to finally see the real specs, and not just the clumsy hype-machine. I don’t think I totally fit into the hip-hop producer demographic they’re going for, but it does seem they have put some real thought into the design. If it delivers what they are advertising, they will sell a lot of those.

  3. Okay seriously the other videos make this box look like a joke, but this video actually shows some tight specs. I like the two headphone jacks, not really necessary with a splitter, but hey, it’s coo. What really has my attention tho is the battery, what a sick add. Surprised nobody else thought about it first. I’ll be packin’ this box around everywhere.

  4. This video makes the Beat Thang look pretty interesting, and shows that the Beat Kangz are really excited about what they are doing, which is cool, too.

  5. Nice thinking on the design. It borrows some ideas from the Electribe models, and that is why it will be a big succes IF they deliver. MPC looks great, but is certenly is not user friendly. The extra sliders and buttons on the MPC5000 should have been there 10 years ago. Why would you want to scroll menus and push multiple Shift commands before you can adjust a parameter.

  6. These guys are off to a killer start. I’d like to see a demo of something besides hip hop, though.

Also – I’ve never heard of them before, so I’m wondering if they’ll be able to really deliver this and do it at a reasonable price.

  7. They did do the sound design for ZOOM’s Streetboxx So Im sure they are fully capable of being innovative…But Im sure it will be about 700usd

  8. They need to handle their biss. I haven’t seen any promo or projected market due date.Too busy clowning around and if they keep it up somebody going to come along and rip their product with a cheaper better know name. Freaking clowms!!!

  9. Not only does this kill the MPC 500, it kills all MPC’s. The Kangz are droppin bombz on the industry with this machine. There has never been anything like this.

  10. I was so excited when the Mpc 500 came out cause of the battery operation but i got one and took it back the next day cause it just sucked so bad…. If this is the real deal i think im in love! I’m an old ASR head….. This beat thang looks like my fantasy machine….

its about damn time some one came out with this…. this is on some other shhhhh for real!

  11. Sick! I was actually at NAMM this Jan, and got to play with the machine a bit. I had seen a promo before and thought “I don’t know this is kinda weird marketing” but when I heard it in person OH MY GOD! Dude, these sounds are incredible. and there are thousands of them preloaded. Nice user interface too. No shift keys and menus. I actually am a techno-head, so I wasn’t sure if the Hip-Hop thing would work, but now I’m sold. The portable thing kills it too. I just regret that I just got the MPC2500. That’s probably going to be on ebay when this machine ships.

  12. Yeah man, this joint looks crazy. I’m trying to get a demo unit so I can do a review on my site. Either way, you better believe I’ll have one. I’m an mpc head, 4k to be exact…

but you can’t front on the specs of this thing. Some may not like the marketing, I think they are shooting for a specific audience, but the tech specs make this machine pretty dope, especially for portability.

The way it works, you can tell it’s made by producers for producers, not by some tech heads who don’t produce a day in their lives lol. Can’t wait for it…they also have a virtual machine coming out, I believe next month.

  14. Their website is up, the virtual beat thang is already out and the hardware is shipping in October. I already have the software, it's a pretty decent app, obviously I'm a fan lol.

I haven't been this excited about a piece of gear in a while. I'm already building a fan site for it lol.

I'm really hoping the company does well.

  15. Also, the sounds are not strictly hip hop, which I thought it would be. There are some flexible sounds inside this thing for everything from smooth jazz, to some electronic and even some alternative stuff. You can get down with the included soundset, but the samples are there like other workstations so you can edit, also bring in your own samples and make keygroups, etc.

I just want to get my hands on the hardware lol, the software is dope but it's teasin me!
