Synthtopia readers are going to be seeing a lot of NAMM Show posts over the next couple of weeks – so we thought it would be good to explain what NAMM is and what The NAMM Show is for people that are unfamiliar with it.

What Does NAMM Stand For?

“NAMM” is the name of an organization that represents the International Music Products Association.

The acronym comes from the “National Association of Music Merchants,” but the long form of the name is no longer used, because the organization isn’t focused on the United States or just merchants, but on the interests of the global music products industry.

Over its more-than-100-year history, the association has evolved from a national entity representing the interests of music products retailers to an international association including both commercial and retail Members.

What Is The NAMM Show?

The NAMM Show is a pair of music industry events held each year in the Winter and Summer that are designed to let people in the music show and see the latest music gear, software and services.

The Winter NAMM Show is held in January in Anaheim, California. It’s one of the largest music industry events in the world, and many vendors make their biggest product introductions of the year there.

The Summer NAMM Show is held in July and has been held in various locations in recent years. It’s a much smaller event, and has faced declining attendance in the last few years, as many vendors focus on the Winter Show and the Internet.
