Ableton Live Just Got Sexier, With Mu

Saturday Synth Porn: Think Ableton Live 8 can’t get any sexier?

Think again.

JazzMutant has released this teaser for Mu – an Ableton Live control app for the Lemur multi-touch control surface. Mu brings a Star Trek interface to Live, letting you trigger clips and scenes with glowing Chiclets and mix with luminescent sliders.

While this is a teaser for a Lemur app, it also gets me excited about the potential of the Apple iPad. It can’t be long before similar apps are developed for the iPad, bringing relatively inexpensive multi-touch control to your sequencer, soft synths and even hardware synths.

Mu runs as a Max for Live plugin – so you’ll need Ableton Live 8 and Max For Live to be able to use it.

No official word on pricing or availability for Mu is up yet on the JazzMutant home page.

Excited about the potential of multi-touch controllers for music? Leave a comment with your thoughts!

  1. If you are a "standard" Live owner you will just need several grand in order to use Mu. Good things come to those who wait. Lets all wait and see what the iPad will bring to the table.

  2. I'm willing to wager a large sum that iPad will replicate this. I'm basing this on the iPhone application Omni Live that allows Spectrasonic's Omnisphere to be controlled over Wi-Fi. The threat is demand (owners of iPad and Live) and cost of development versus potential revenue.

  4. I'm curious about whether Lemur can control third-party plug-ins within Live as well. This is definitely an uninformed curiosity on my part as I've never seriously considered a Lemur before this. Does anyone have any ideas?
