Korg Intros Electribe MX SD and Electribe SX SD

Korg-EMX-SD

Musikmesse 2010: Korg announced updates to its popular Electribe workstations, adding support for massive SD data storage and new presets/patterns: the Electribe-MX SD (EMX-1 SD) and Electribe-SX SD (ESX-1 SD).

Korg teamed up with artists from around the world to deliver beats, patterns and Electribe SX (ESX-1) samples. Ninja Tune/Big Dada artists Emika and the Anti-pop Consortium are contributors, as well as U.K. MySpace artist Shrikednb (Tom Thorpe), plus YouTube stars Denkitribe and Scribej.

The addition of convenient SD/SDHC card storage allows up to 32GB of sound, pattern, song, and sample data to be saved on an individual card. This enables an entire live show’s worth of data to be saved on a single card.

The EMX-1 SD, top, uses Korg’s MMT (Multiple Modeling Technology) sound engine to offer sixteen types of tone generation.

The ESX-1 SD, second photo, offers powerful editing features to provide the freedom to sample and modify sounds in realtime.

Features common to both models include:

  • Twin vacuum tube VALVE FORCE circuitry, delivering analog warmth or menacing bite
  • Three stereo effects that can be chained together for radical sound warping
  • Crisp filters and speedy-smooth timbral modulation
  • Built-in step sequencer, delivering intuitive song production
  • Motion Sequence function, to capture and replay sound-tweaking knob movements
  • Powerful arpeggiator, ribbon controller and slider, for generating inspired phrases
  • Auto BPM Detection, which sets the tempo based on any external audio source

The Korg Electribe EMX-1 SD and ESX-1 SD will be available June 2010 with an MSRP of $750.00.

  1. The new card and increased capacity will be very significant for the sample-based ESX…but I have the synth-based EMX, which had plenty of card capacity already. I would've asked for USB instead.

  3. Yeah – it seems like they're trying to squeeze as much life as they can out of some old technology.

I can't see spending $750 on this – for that money there are much more powerful boxes.

Is it the LED that lights up the vacuum tube that's driving up the cost?

  4. Electribe SD has the same ram of 50 mb!!! So anyway you are limited, cause you can use just 50 mb at one time and just 100(mono) + 50(stereo) sample! If you want more samples you need to loaded again!!! Why don't they make it read directly from the memory? SP-404 do that from a few years now… So that you don't have any memory limit (just the sd memory limit). They lost a lot with this move!!!

So Octatrack will be the new shit, 64 GB of memory sampling and NO loading times 😉

  5. This is a just a mind-boggling miss-step for Korg. Honestly even on the ESX the Smart Media card was big enough since you could only load up like 20-30mb at one time onto the ESX parts. Now you can load up an SD card with 1000x more storage than the ESX itself; big fucking deal!

  8. I like to back up my EMX to my computer. Dumping it to PC via midi is painfully slow and requires a midi-to-usb interface. Dumping the card to PC requires an external card reader and several extra steps. USB would solve this. And who really needs a 32gb card when the entire memory of the EMX is less than 2mb?

  9. I have the ESX with a (128 Mb smart media card) …..sadly very expensive
    correct me here
1..I loaded a few wave samples in the free flash memory
2 I Loaded more samples in the SM Card
The sad part is I cannot load anymore from the SMCard as it says memory Full
SO WHATS THE BIG DEAL getting an expensive outdated SMC
the joke is I just use the ESX with the samples loaded in the flash .
    .so the SMCard seems redundant
I always thought I could load samples direct from the SMCard to a pattern and play live
didnt know I would have to delete some to load other samples..
    PAINFUL
AM I doing anything wrong..correct me here please

  14. The best way I've found to do it is load and save sets and manage it with the ESX Wave Organizer (free PC app). So 1 set is just 1 .esx file and instead of loading up individual parts I save and load 1 .esx per set.
