Must See! New Radikal Accelerator Synthesizer Features Wanktastic 3D Motion Sensor

Congratulations are in order for developer Jörg Schaaf of Radikal Technologies, who not only debuted one of the most interesting new synthesizers of Musikmesse 2010 – but he also single-handedly introduced an entirely new form of wankery to the world of keyboard performance.

This quick demo video, via via Moogulator, shows Schaaf demonstrating the new Radikal Technologies Accelerator Synthesizer.

The Accelerator is an impressive polyphonic synth – with eight subtractive voices, that each feature three oscillators, two multimode filters, 6 envelope generators, three voice LFOs and one section LFO.

What the Radikal Accelerator is going to get the most attention for, though, is its 3D sensor.

The sensor converts movements of the keyboard into modulation data. The 3D sensor lets you control parameters like pitch, the filter frequency or modulation depth by lifting up or shaking the keyboard.

Waving around a polyphonic monster synth may be a little crazy – but it’s also funny, different and new – all good things.

Check out the specs below –  and let us know what you think of the Radikal Accelerator and its 3D sensor!

Specifications:

  • 3 oscillators with sweepable waveforms, time linearity modulation, phasemodulation, ringmodulation between Oszillator 2+3
  • oscillator synchronisation
  • 6 envelope generators
  • 4 LFOs (3 voice, 1p art LFO)
  • \noise with noise filter (multimode filter 12 / 24 dB)
  • independent amp EG for noise
  • 2 multimodefilter per voice
  • LP, HP, BP and Notch with 12/24 dB per filter switchable
  • independent oscillator to filter feeds
  • serial and parallel filter configurations
  • 8 voices (expandable per DSP upgrade)
  • categorized randomize sound function
  • monochrome graphic display with RGB backlight
  • modulationmatrix – 2 FX – arpeggiator
  • step sequencer
  • split, dual, single and performance mode
  • 3D positioning sensor for parameter control
  • 61 lightweighted keys with channel aftertouch
  • 512 sound memories
  • floating point for enhanced dynamic range
  • expression pedal input
  • footswitch input
  • USB (USB MIDI class device)
  • two external inputs
  • two outputs
  • MIDI In, Out, Thru
  • headphones output

via Moogulator:

has a 3D Sensor, so this is not a fake, very close to the Spectralis – very HiEnd and fine sounding 3 OSC, 2 Filter Sound Engine with Modulation Sequencer.

  1. Quite frankly I'm not that impressed since the idea isn't really new IMO. I mean; its not so much different from Roland and their infrared sensor where you can change controls by moving your hand.

But yeah; What ST3R30 said; in a keytar this idea might indeed make a whole lot more sense since you could then really enhance on your performance. Both playstyle-wise as well as performance-wise. Much more fun (I'd imagine anyway) for the crowd so /see/ someone physically move to a spot to play certain notes/effects than see (or don't see ;-)) him touch a button or rigging a dial.

But in a regular keyboard? No way.

  3. Does this thing come with a pivot so that it doesn't destroy your desk? As for 3D controller I only ever see 2-axis being used. Are you really going to tip it forwards while playing it?

At least we have a price now, at 2:47 he says 1790, I assume that's Euros so ~$2400.IMO that's topping out a bit for an 8 voice VA. A prophet 08 is ~2100. I guess he's aiming sub-Virus.

  5. It's actually possible to add similar function to any synth or keyboard with an ipod touch or an iphone. Of course you'd need a computer, wifi connection and midi out. You could attach and ipod sleeve case on the synth, so it would be easy to attach and remove the ipod whenever needed. There are ipod apps that can send accelerator data as midi messages over wifi. You could then send that midi data to any synth.

  7. El teclado es la cosa más estúpida que he visto un muchísimos años. El sonido es pésimo. Y el que lo muestra no ha visto un instrumento musical en su vida.

  8. I saw Jesus Jones in concert and the keyboard player had a custom stand for his keyboard. He was jumping up and down on the thing and throwing it around. It was pretty entertaining. Would be even better if all that stuff he was doing was effecting filters or pitch or whatever.
