A Drowning is the first song released by How To Destroy Angels, Trent Reznor‘s project with his wife Mariqueen.

Can you listen to this without imagining Reznor singing it?

Here it is, Trent Reznor’s first musical offering since the end of Nine Inch Nails: How to Destroy Angels’ seven-minute downtempo slither “A Drowning”. EP is out this summer!

  1. I guess coming from the perspective of NIN (and what's expected of Trent from that fan base), it does seem dull and boring.

Trying to view it anew – as this is a new chapter in Trent's life/career, I do find elements in this song I like.

But if they come any closer to sounding like Evanescence, I'm out.

  2. two thumbs up. It's fantastic. It's nice to hear something that's close to 'right where we belong' but with a female vocal. Trents voice is excellent, but this gives it different feel.

Trent has proved everything he needs to prove. I am happy for him that he's sold off all his NIN gear, found a talented wife and they are making beautiful music together … all together now … aaaahhhhhhhhh …

  8. Aside from the vocals its not much different than the older NIN stuff… The non-expressive vocals really work on this track. I'll be curious to see if they try that trick on all the other tracks as well…
    so far I like it.

  12. between 2:24 and 2:42 seems rushed, not so well thought out.

aside from that, i did the down-tempo of it all, and i welcome the female vocals.

the sound is nothing really 'new'. but considering the NIN fan base and those listening/making up all the music on NINremix.com, this kinda sound seems like the right direction for Trent.

    I look forward to more…

and i hope Trent offers up the assets to Ninremixs.com too. The people their could really use some female vocals.

  16. Sweet! Trent Finally listened to Burial! Totally awesome way to take an already great record and dull it down for the nin fanbase!

  21. He is not really sailing the boat very far from the shore is he? Even if he does have someone along for the ride now.

That's not a bad thing at all since Trent is really good at what he does.
I am sure NIN fans will dig it.

  26. I think this is amazing.

It doesnt sound like evanescence at all. What a ridiculous comment. Just because its dark and has a female vocalist. Anyways…

    This is far more honest.

  27. She reminds me a little of Toni Halliday. I kind of feel bad not loving it. I feel like it's politically correct for me to love it, almost as if not loving it puts me in that jealous chic category. The fact is though, I don't just love it. With that said, it's more due to the mix and not the music. I would like to get my hands on that track and see what I could do to the vocals to mix them in with the music. I'm sure he wanted them to stand out from the music in some sort of Jungian symbolic reference, even if he doesn't realize it. I wish them the best and may the gods of music send their muses to smile upon them both. I'm still getting the EP via email and will try it again.

If this makes sense: It's ok, but something is missing and a little off.
