Elektron’s Trinity – The Octatrack, MachineDrum & MonoMachine

This is an improvised DJ/live set using only the Elektron Octatrack, Machinedrum and Monomachine.

Everything is done live. No additional effects or mixers were used.

The Octatrack plays back time stretched loops and samples. At the same time it sends out MIDI clock to the Machinedrum and the Monomachine. The audio outputs from these two units are connected to the two input pairs of the Octatrack. This makes the Octatrack function as a mixer and effects unit in addition to being a sound source.

  1. Agree. 🙁 These are great machines, and these videos to NOT do them justice… (And I chuckled at Jim’s comment. Very true.)

  2. Not sure how they managed to make a boring promo video that still makes me want to go out and drop three grand on these things.

    If I had the money!

  3. "Just" an Elektron Octarack, Machinedrum and Monomachine! Anyone should be able to get decent sounds out of this multi-thousand dollar rig!

  4. I would like to see a non-techno demo of just the Octatrack. Also, I would like to say that last year I went through 2 Machindrum UWs that were defective. Elektron apologized for the first one and promptly sent me a second unit that they "inspected" which arrived with sunken LEDs and transport buttons(i've got photos if you're interested). The first unit had 2 intermittently responsive knobs. Just a warning. My Monomachine was perfect but bought 3 years ago. Anyway, I hope that isn't a sign of quality control issues to come. To me those are issue that you'd might expect from Akai but not Elektron.

  5. Typing fast and posting before reviewing is a real bummer… sorry for the typos. Here is what the post was meant to say.

So annoyed with the fast moving fingers that aren't really doing much… Similar to a DJ appearing to look busy over a mixer… a style that I personally cannot stand. Most of the buttons being pushed are just changing the modes but not actually affecting the sound… i.e. hitting the record button on and off which makes the "mode" lights change but not the actual sequence… or switching the sequence's steps from 16 to 32 to 48 to 64 and back to 16. A majority of this is just smoke and mirrors!
